Big Week For New Awesome Bars: Updated Not Open to Public (or Me)
16 October 2007 9:50 PM | By Prince Of Petworth in UncategorizedThanks to Bill from Petworth News for alerting me to the newest bar to hit U Street. The bar that everyone has been waiting for, Marvin, is set for a soft opening tomorrow night. Marvin is located on 14th Street just north of U Street and is set to have a bit of a Belgian flavor. Why? Because the bar is named after Marvin Gaye who apparently spent a few years in Belgium. What has folks most excited is that this bar comes from the owner of Eighteenth St. Lounge, you know the Thievery Corporation guys. So get ready for the soft opening on Wed. night and I’ll see you there. And remember this is the bar Fritz, from the Washington Post Gurus, is most excited about it.
Hopefully it will be open this weekend…

Where is it exactly? I hope it’s far enough off the beaten path that it doesn’t attract the awful Local 16 crowd. Eric’s bars are beautifully designed and always have great music, so I’m really looking forward to this, especially if it has a good selection of Belgian beers.

Unfortunately, it is in the old Subway sandwich store located almost on top of the corner of 14th and U. The Local 16 crowd will be raiding it soon enough along with residents at that monstrosity of a condo building at 14th and V, but in the mean time it will be delightful.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to suggest that tonight’s soft opening is open to the public. Please don’t come, it’s invite only! They should open for real soon, hopefully this weekend but don’t take my word for it.
