Thanks to Susan for sending me this phenomenal photo. Sadly, the truck drove for the now defunct Wings n Things restaurant that was located on Kennedy and Georgia. Thankfully this truck will now be memorialized and God willing placed on a t-shirt one day. In case you can’t read it, it says:
“A Chicken Ain’t Nuthin’ But a Chickens Butt…But the Wings the Thing!”

Love it….the wings on the front of the truck really pull the whole piece together.

Funny, when I was a kid back in the 60’s Wings-n-Things was at 14th and U and they advertised heavily on the local black radio stations WOL-AM and WUST-AM and their motto was “A chicken ain’t nothin’ but a bird but the wing’s the THING!” I think that somewhere along the line after the place changed hands somebody messed up the motto. Now it just sounds dumb to me…

Damn I was sorry to see that place go. Although I had wanted to stop in, I hadn’t gotten around to it yet. It probably would have done better if there was more goin’ on on Kennedy. It was a few years before it was needed at that location.
Now it’s just another chinese place — that I assume is horrible. I’ve given up on finding good asian food east of park. Thankfully a short drive to Silver Spring and I have my favorite Spring Garden — good prices, nice folks and vegetables are fresh, and the food isn’t that sticky sweet crap that they serve at those chicken and chinese food places. Bleh.

Dont tell my cardiologist this, but Wings was -as the kids ( or former kids) used to say-
“da bomb.” Greatly missed.
But the new Chinese place which took its place is, I think, a couple (maybe three ) notches up from the standard take out fare (unfair?) we are all probably a little too used to in the ‘hood. I’m not talking City Lights of China or anything-but you can ( and probably have done) do worse.
