Wish I could say I'm a fan, but I'm not. In my chance meetings I've found her to be anything but the open-minded, fair reporter I had hoped. Instead she has gone out of her way to avoid offering context, comes into some stories with her mind made up, and clearly has an agenda to sell. That's fine in a bar room discussion - we're all entitled to our points of view - but I've seen how her bias has led to stories that result from not seeking all angles. That's not to say that all of her pieces are bad. She's done some fine work on non-controversial topics. But when controversy is involved, I have little to no faith in her ability to report fairly and accurately. Did you ask her why her job didn't pan out on the West coast by the way?

<blockquote>And anyway, why is drinking so cool?</blockquote>

I've always wondered that myself. I'm a teetolater, not interested in drinking or the drunken scene. There is this huge obsession in DC with drinking which baffles me. I still go out to nightclubs (What else is there for me to do---go to church?!) but don't partake in drinking, and people look at me as if I'm a pariah. I notice that the drinkers become so insecure about themselves around me. If those people were so confident in their "I'm over 21 and can drink!" selves, they wouldn't care about my non-drinking. Egads.

"drinks (albeit mostly wine)"

Uh, dude, first off...wine contains alcohol. "Albeit" as defined by the OED, means "though", so what are you saying that drinking wine is, uh, not drinking? And anyway, why is drinking so cool? Most folks drunk are not cool, they are, well, drunk. What are you in an Frat or something?

She didn't write the "Kentucky Boys" story---Franklin Schneider did.

<a href="http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/display.php?id=334&navCenterTop" rel="nofollow">Good Ol' Boys in the Hood</a>

(He also wrote some really misogynistic stuff about hooking up with women in DC, but that's a whole 'nother topic.)

What was the "Kentucky boys" story about? Let me guess: she makes fun of them because they are from Kentucky? Full disclosure: I too am from Kentucky.

I think I remember reading stuff she wrote in Willy Week. Portland's loss is DC's gain.
