You can only see this part of the condo on Kalorama from the alley. But it is the most futuristic building I’ve seen in DC. I bet the rooms on the inside are pretty wild. What is that material, copper? After the jump you can see the condos from the front.
Note: this is the same building where the Sitar Arts Center is located.

Gorgeous … does look like copper, which ain’t cheap.
No most probably they are jut metal sheets with artificial bronze like patina
Nope..they’re really copper. It’s one of the few buildings in DC where every condo was able to personally customize the space pre construction. It’s a really interesting building.
It looks cool now but I guarantee that it will look attrocious in 15 years. I can just imagine: “Copper ??!?! On a building ??!?!?! Thats sooo 2008″
Its one of my favorite buildings in the District as well, along with W Street Residences. Modern, high quality materials, and not a hint of brick. It would look more at home in Seattle though I think.
So is the building going to turn green once it oxidizes?
Yes, it’s copper cladding.
See http://www.esocoff.com for more info.
Click on Projects, then Residential, and scroll down to the bottom…
Those who live around it (and have to look at it every day instead of just in a photo) refer to it as the beer can….but at the end of the day it’s probably the best use of PUD the city has done.
all of those damn powerlines ruin it for me…ugh…
The W street residence is already rusting and it is only a couple of years old…I think Division 1 cheaped out on something…
Cristobal,
I live on 17th right across from this building. I can see it from my roof above the power lines. It really looks pretty at dusk when the sun is shining right behind the copper. I’ll take a picture tomorrow and maybe PoP can update.
Gladly.
Ha! I didn’t realize the comments were over a year old!
There are a couple of condos from that building that are currently on the market. Might make for a nice GDoN:
