The City Paper followed up with Officer Delgado, and it turns out the employee theft story was bullshit, too. Maybe we need to raise our expectations a little, or these rumors will turn out to be a self-fulfilling prophecies.

As a side note, I’ve been really impressed with how professional and friendly the employees at Target and Bed Bath and Beyond have been. It’s uncommon in this area. Who knows if they will get jaded after the initial euphoria wears off, but it’s refreshing to be treated kindly and competently.

Maybe the story popped up out of the robberies on the CH escalators by a 17 year old who was robbing people by gun point. That was on 3/4 and 3/5. He was robbing people of their wallets and cell phones and telling them “they were lucky they didn’t get shot over this.”

What you hear are rumors regarding this incident that have no bearing or merit. What actually occurred was that store employees that were caught stealing from the Target. Rumors like this cast a negative light on Columbia Heights and will discourage developers and new home owners from investing in Columbia Heights.
