I support the hostel and have even gone on my own tour of the facilities. The only thing I’m worried about is that they have the right kind of licenses to run the business. I would hate for a fire or something awful to happen to then find out that they weren’t up to code. I asked their “regional manager” about it when I went and he totally blew me off. It’s still a lot of people in a small space.

it sounds like the Loftstel is turning out great for people visiting DC. I live down the street from them and see a lot of people coming to and from the hostel. Combined with the new playground at 8th & Taylor I”m seeing a lot more people walking on 8th St since I moved to Petworth a couple years ago…it’s great and I think it makes it a lot more comfortable to walk in the neighborhood. From my perspective the Loftstel is having a positive impact on Petworth and I’m very happy to have them as neighbors.

Karen, kudos for taking the time to do this! I wouldn’t last a day in a hostel environment, regardless of how friendly everyone is. I need my own space.
