bogfrog, craigslist ‘english basement’ in nyc, you’ll find at least a dozen results. whether or not it’s the correct term, it is still used.

Is it just me, or does $1300 seem like an awful lot for a garden level apt? (Which, yes, I’ve always understood to mean walkout basement level). The patio area is nice, but we’re still talking partly/mostly underground. Dark as hell, prone to flooding, and besides the sprickets (those large f’ing crickets that bear an uncanny resemblance to spiders), more likely to get roaches and the like.

The last apartment my boyfriend lived in was called “The Bunker” because of a large wall that surrounded the little porch slash front door.
I thought all people named their houses? At least everyone I know does.

‘Garden floor’ and ‘parlor floor’ are Brooklyn words. There is no such thing as an ‘English basement’ in NYC.

i’d rather live on a top floor not something that is buried under ground..”garden apartment” hmmm! ask urself is it worth it..perhaps the greenhouse apartment..

that garden apt looks cute but dark – are there any windows in the place? the one saving grace to my basement is a fair amount of sunlight – a rarity.

You do know that “garden apartment” is usually the nice, realtor-speak way of saying “partially above-ground basement,” right?
