This yard blew me away. The columns are just the bomb. It is so odd because out front it just looks like a regular rowhouse. Good stuff.

I’ve seen this, too – I don’t think the yard belongs to the rowhouse. It looks like it’s part of the lot occupied by the modern(ish) apartment building next door. I expect that the columns are the remnants of a formal garden that was behind a large mansion that was leveled in order to build the current apartment building.
this is my favorite mystery in washington dc. i used to always walk by it… a strange fantasia behind some garbage can area… 16th and florida.
