I love the fact that we are able to purchase an entire coconut on the street. This is from the stand right across from Red Derby. For $5 the guy takes a machete and whacks the top off. Then you stick a straw in the coconut and drink all the juice (which is surprisingly a lot by the by). Then, then he completely whacks the coconut in half and cuts all the pulp out for a nice snack. I’m telling you it is awesome. More photos after the jump.

I think 20 years from now we will say..."ew"
Living in such a light less place would drive me to self violence.
Yes! How could I have forgotten the sauce. Ohhh, that sauce...
I have a part Oriental of some sort (I think Tonkinese, but will never know for sure),...
I would definitely like to learn more about this... if anyone has info, please share.
Thanks for this info! I will thoroughly enjoy patronizing this local biz.
Too bad too much coconut milk gives you the squirts. I can only eat coconut products sparingly
Wonder what this guy would do if you try to “Chew and Screw”?
whats a chew and screw?
I thought it was my civil duty to point out that the black truck in the background perfectly fits the description of the one that ran down that two year old in College Park…Black F150, Silver Toolbox in the bed, MD plates, hispanic driver…I mean of course that could be alot of vehicles in CH/Petworth, but it might be worth looking into considering that story is really horrible…
Cristobal- I assume it’s along the same lines as a “Dine and Ditch”
and that guy might come after you with his machete.
Welcome to the third world, in a good way.
Anon:
I don’t see a hispanic driver? Anyway it doesn’t look like the same truck to me: http://www.nbc4.com/news/17094477/detail.html?rss=dc&psp=news
