Signs don’t get much better than this, do they? Stan’s is located on H Street, NE.

They are actually living plants. Insane. Anyway if you want one head down to Georgetown on O Street. (Damn I think it’s O St. but I’m not 100%). Here’s the name of the store:
Yeah, they still kind of freak me out…

I never gave it much thought but last time I walked through it I took a few moments to check out the art. I dig it. It’s located where the old convention center used to be. Next time your downtown check it out.

From a reader:
“I know you’ll appreciate this. Yesterday evening, after getting back from Giant, my roommate and I saw this crazy squirrel trying to get into our house. The windows were open, and it was trying to get through the screen, so we closed them. This guy would not give up, and was still there 20 minutes later. Attempts to scare him off had absolutely no effect. I also suspect he might be responsible for popping out one of our railings, you can see it in the picture. Have you heard of rabid squirrels around or is this just standard craziness?”
My war on squirrels is fairly well documented. I am embarrassed to admit that at times I’ve also had difficulty scaring them off my porch. I don’t think they are rabid though. I think they are brilliant tacticians and are just trying to drive us crazy. I’ve never had one try to break into my house but I did have one break into my car and change all the radio presets. You see they are just messing with our heads. The best advice I can give is that a water gun never fails. I also find yelling YIP, YIP, YIP, in quick succession can scare the rookies. But for the veterans I recommend you go straight for the water gun.

Some of the condos in the PN Hoffman building on 14th Street look really wild. Pretty unusual roof, yeah? But to the point at hand this is a great balcony.

I don’t know what it is about these carriage houses but they are super cool. If only carriage houses had vestibules… Are they common in other cities besides DC? Different angle after the jump. (more…)

Anyone recognize where it’s from? Hint: It’s from a bridge.

I was intrigued by the double doors and details up top just below the roof.

I think I have shown this building in a much earlier iteration. But it looks nearly completed now. So what do you think thumbs up or down? Also this is a new construction and you can see that one side has windows and one doesn’t, so what’s up with that? Why would they do that if it is new construction?

The economy seems to be hitting everyone. I used to see nice bottles of Grey Goose vodka, upscale beer bottles and even champagne bottles strewn in tree boxes. Life was good then for the street drinkers. Now, I’m seeing Natural Light Ice cans. Damn. It’s seem this economic downturn has hit all of us… Have you changed your habits at all?

This house, at 1221 10 Street, NW is a former door of the day. One my favorite doors to boot. Anyway, the flier says:
“ANOTHER 50K PRICE REDUCTION! Elegant, renovated 2-unit rwhse. Walk to Logan/14th & P, Metro, Conv Ctr, Gallery Pl. #1 – 2 lvls, 2BR, 2.5BA, Master Suite w/ fp, LR w/ fp opens to patio/large landscaped yard. #2 – 2 lvls, 2BR, 2BA, true chef’s kit, exposed brick, huge deck, great Master Suite. Restored carriage hse/2-car grg + loft on Blagden Alley zoned commercial. Furnishings negotiable.”
More info and photos can be found here.
I’m very curious to know what you think about the house itself and the price. The price has been reduced from $1,195,000 to $1,095,000. So does a $100k price cut now make it a good deal?

I recently walked past Thomas Circle and it’s looking good. I’ve never really thought of Thomas Circle before as a great “circle” like Logan and Grant circles. But it’s got a great statue just like Logan does. So who the hell was Thomas anyway?
So if you had to rate your favorite “circle” in DC which would it be?
