Looks Like Duke’s Has Closed (For Renovations?)

DSCN3731

Does anyone know if Duke’s City Restaurant has closed for renovations or permanently? Were there any fans out there? Duke’s was/is located on U Street between 12th and 13th Streets.

It’s closed for renovations on the first floor. I remember seeing a sign saying the upstairs is still open during the renovations. Don’t worry, Duke lovers, it’s still open.

I went for brunch once. Ok, nothing special.

Their wine by the glass is a huge pour for unbelievably cheap. The bartender doesn’t drink wine, however, so don’t expect any recommendations (lame).

OK now I’m completely confused. I walk by on Friday night and the Duke’s City sign is gone and “Indulj Restaurant and Lounge” is up (their spelling, not mine). I don’t know if it’s the same owners re-imagining the concept or what, but I guess Duke’s City is gone.

We ate there a few times when it first opened; the food was quite mediocre. No matter what time of night one would walk by, there were few customers inside; it is surprising the establishment stayed open as long as it did. The opening of the far superior Ulah Bistro next door was probably its death knell.

The owner of Duke’s City told me it is under new management, and being renovated. The new management team worked at Sesto Senso for years, so sounds promising. The new name is Indulj; the lounge upstairs is now open & looks good. I am excited to see what they do with the dining room & menu.

Indulj restaurant and Lounge is now open both upstairs and downstairs. The menu features southern cuisine with a twist…more upscale. The new decor and the atmosphere is outstanding, and they have live jazz on Fridays and Saturdays on the first floor. If you liked Duke City, it must not take much to satisfy you. Indulj is definitely on a level that way exceeds where Duke City ever was. It’s definitely a place to check out.

The former ownwers of Duke City do not own Indulj Restaurant & Lounge, I went in and found out. I’vehad the food and I am extremely impressed
