re:>What are the perceived benefits other than representation in Congress and more autonomy (and is that thing necessarily a pro)?

The representation everyone's talking about is just in the House. Still doesn't mean we get a vote in the Senate. Statehood would give us a senator.

Autonomy will give us the authority to write our own damn laws and not have to worry about Congress overturning them. So, don't trivialize it.

All the good slogans are already taken. "Choose Life." "Choose Jif."

How about "F**k and Kill?" That seems to work for the younger people in DC.

Anybody see Pepsi's ridiculous new ad campaign? Their slogans include "Yes You Can" and "Choose Change" - and they tweaked their logo to make it look more like the Obama horizon logo. And they're claiming it's just a coincidence. It's offensively absurd.

I support any slogan which inspires the target demographic to action. Hitching DC Statehood to the coattails of Obama's rallying cry may be tiresome but it may also be an effective method energize the population. I'd rather manipulate the pre-existing passions of a historic presidency for the good of the district than take my chances with a snappy new phrase that will look good on dilapidated signs sloppily hung around the hood long after the vote/referendum/coin toss is defeated in congress due to lack of public support.

PoP and others -

I recently had a discussion with my wife about whether statehood would be a good thing for DC. What are the perceived benefits other than representation in Congress and more autonomy (and is that thing necessarily a pro)?
