at least they plowed.
in 2004 during the big Pres. Day storm, even though Mayor Williams proclaimed that all streets had been plowed, he clearly had not checked the 700 blk of Newton place, because it was not.

Odentex: So true... As a single white woman with a tiny, non-threatening dog, I surprisingly never feel unsafe in my home. My neighbors are 30 year residents who could not be kinder or more nosey. They on top of it all. The neighbor two doors down (Jean, some of you may know him from the 5100 block of 3rd Street) mows the lawn, brings in the trash cans, shovels the walk, etc, and keeps us informed of all the goings-on on our block. One of many perks of this 'hood! :)

Well, he didn't immediately drive off. He had to remove parts of the destroyed fence from his plow first.

Then he skedaddled.

According to the city it's DDOT. It was reported to ANC Joe Martin by a neighbor about 10 minutes after it happened. From there, Muriel Bowser, and the appropriate DDOT people were informed. Both Joe and Muriel responded right away and sicced their peeps on DDOT.

Actually, I hope it's not DPW since I have a long and well documented love for DPW and their willingness to recycle just about any piece of junk I put out back and their prompt fixin' of my broken trash can.

Bill Howland for DC Dictator!

Odentex - I'm not sure it's DDOT. I think it's actually DPW. Where did you all report this to?

Von: One of the neighbors who witnessed the events Tuesday suggested he might have been driving with his friend Jim Beam, but as far as I know he didn't wait around for the breathalyzer test-- he had places to go, fences to plow over. But residents shouldn't worry, I'm sure this will spark a round of training at DDOT Snow Plow Academy on how best to escape without being caught on film wrecking an entire block of trashcans and fences.

While my cynical posting focuses on the absurdity of the event, I would like to highlight this:

You do not mess with old Petworthians. They are watching you ALL THE TIME. No less than a half dozen neighbors were on this fool like white on rice. Taking pictures, calling the city, and letting others know what went down within minutes of the event. Honestly, while it's disturbing that this guy decided to run off after he'd wrecked everything in the alley, the fact that all the neighbors are on top of this is really great and another reason I really like PW.
