“I saw this sticker on a utility box at 11th and Columbia and was wondering if you had seen it elsewhere/what it means (or if any of the readers did). I know it means “Mother Love”, but beyond that, I have no idea.”
Hmm, I’ve also only seen this at 11th and Columbia. It does remind me a bit of the baby from the greatest city sticker yet? which I posted back in the middle of Dec.
Anyone seen these around town? My guess is that it relates to the “Spanish-language telenovela produced by the United States-based television network Telemundo.” You can find a bit more info from Wikipedia. Any Telemundo fans out there? Is that what this sticker refers to?

Check out how the branches are interwoven. It’s also cool how one branch weaves through the iron fence. Pretty fresh. Closeups after the jump. (more…)

I think the wood border is the coolest feature of this door.

I’ve never seen one that has white stone like this. But of course what really interested me was the fact that is another historical house:

This comes from PoP Flickr pool user “arisenders”. I really love how the trees look in this photo surrounded by huge crowds.
I’ve gotten tons of good entries so far and am still accepting more through Friday. You can email them to me directly or tag them in flickr with popobamaweekcontest. Congrats “arisenders” on this great shot. Another cool shot by arisenders after the jump. (more…)

And it’s pretty sweet! This is located on Columbia Road on the side of Mama Ayesha’s right after you cross the Ellington bridge heading from Woodley Park to Adams Morgan.
You’ll see all the Presidents from Eisenhower to Obama with Mama Ayesha in the middle. And there is even space for one more future president. I think it came out really well. What do you guys think – thumbs up or down? It was done by Karla Rodas who is President of Karlisima Murals & Design. More photos after the jump. (more…)

Remember this sweet corner house that I featured a while back? I love when former houses of the day go on the market because we can finally see what they look like on the inside. This home is located at 1732 21st Street, NW:
The flier says:
“The jewel box on 21st Street! Why pay condo fees when you can own a house? The charming tile-roofed exterior opens to a meticulous renovation inside. High ceilings, hardwoods, 2 fireplaces, built-ins galore. Stunning custom bath with granite vanity and stone shower, master with bay window and French doors, renovated kitchen & more. PLUS just blocks to THE circle, Metro, stores & cafes! Owner/Agent”
You can find more info and a virtual tour here. Sadly, I couldn’t get a permanent link so just type DC6933110 into the “search by MLS # box” after clicking on “search for a home”.
So it’s a pretty small house with 2 bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms. But they have 2 fireplaces. It’s on the market for $850,000. Think a small house in a good location can go that high? What do you think of the house itself?

Back in November I mentioned that Petworth was getting a new coffee shop but was waiting on its final permits. Well, I’m happy to announce that Fresh off the Roast Coffee will be opening up its shop at 3917 Georgia Avenue! I haven’t been this excited since Obama’s inauguration…
Ed. Note: Full disclosure Fresh off the Roast is a PoP advertiser.
“I’m a local blogger who just commented on your blog about having purple tickets and not getting in. Attached is a picture of the narrow part of the 395 tunnel, where we and thousands of others who didn’t get in were stuck for hours. We were there over 3.5 hours.
Check out the crowd in the satellite photos at 1st and C and you can see how dense the group (almost all with tickets) who didn’t get in through the Purple Gate was: http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/
Also attached is a photo from the Giant at Columbia Heights.. $60 for parking!!!”

So I’m dying to hear your stories. I’ve heard from a number of friends who had tickets to the inauguration but because of security glitches they weren’t able to get in. For the folks that went down – tell me – what was it like? How long did it take to get in and out? Anyone watch the parade?
I decided to watch the inauguration at the Red Derby and it was fantastic. It was projected on the wall and there were enough folks there to have a good community feel along with clapping, laughing, and cheering. Yet, it wasn’t so crowded that you couldn’t get food or drinks. I highly recommend this option four years from now.
Thanks to a reader for sending the above photo. Remember to send your photos to princeofpetworth@gmail.com or tag them in flickr with popobamaweekcontest.
So what was your favorite part of the festivities?

I noticed this sign at the Foot Locker on 14th Street just south of U Street. A layaway program for sneakers! Insane! This is the most frightening sign I’ve seen a very long time.

Well, anyone who has been to U Street over this inauguration week has noticed how insanely crowded Ben’s has been. And wouldn’t you know it, I’ve never craved chili cheese fries more… Ah, the beauty of living in the area! But anyway, I just noticed that they got a new sign. And Ben’s next door is a fanatastic new/bar for the neighborhood. Anyone lucky enough to get into Ben’s Next Door?
Didn’t anyone notice this new (temporary) addition as well?

If you have to have a security door this is a pretty sweet choice.

I’ve always thought this was a cool house on Florida Ave. west of 14th Street. The street is generally connected rowhomes but at this curve in the street there is one stand alone house.
