Thanks to my friend Eric for sending this menu that he and his wife saw last year. Please note the selections in parentheses for numbers 1 and 3.

I don’t see the errors as funny but a reflection of the writer’s lack of fluency in English including p & b confusion (crap) vs. (crab). Though his misuse of the apostrophe could be made by an uneducated native speaker of English too. The colons between the dollar and cents amounts is strange. Where the writer is from is what gets me. Ethiopian, maybe Moroccan with minimal French knowledge…
Chloe: The writer could also simply be from Virginny. Ain’t no crabs in the holler ‘cept those you might catch from yer cousin.
That’s actually a pretty good deal for crap meat. Last Valentines Day, I paid TWICE as much for the same crap meat at Sequoia. The crap meat was also cursed.
Maybe its not a mistake, just honesty… haha. love it!
Chloe – you are taking this way too seriously!
Actually, the menu came from a now-defunct Greek restaurant. They were only in business for about 3 months, so I think they made a lot of mistakes, menu-related or otherwise.
After dinner Coffee and Coke, I’m in ….oh wait…maybe thats cake….still in !!!
I particularly enjoy the ever-changing selections at Johnny’s carryout. For a long time, they offered damplings and sace. Now, they’re branching out and have a picture menu item featuring hafe somkes. (That’s half smokes, for those of you not actually looking at the picture.)

Yeah, I know I was taking it too seriously. I teach English as a second language and we do something called error analysis. And vonstallin, one mistake that I absolutely love is mumble sauce, which is how the Chinese speaker probably heard mambo sauce pronounced, and had it written as such on his carry out’s menu. But if you think about it, half really has a silent l in it. I would have written it haf with a short vowel. Love English, y’all.
Wow, Chloe, you must be fun at parties!
I want some damplings.
