I received a very cryptic email from a reader with these great photos.
The email says:
“appears all clear now”
Anyone know what happened at Policy (14th and T Streets) tonight?
More photos after the jump. (more…)

I’ve always been a fan of El Torogoz located at the 4000 block of 9th Street (around the corner from Domku). Thanks to a reader for sending an announcement stating that El Torogoz is looking to add karaoke. Anyone think this is good idea? I think it could be awesome. I used to be a regular at a Korean karaoke place downtown, back in the day. I’m not sure if I’ve asked before, but where are your favorite spots for karaoke in the city? Full notice after the jump. Last May Cafe Collage, located on T Street just east of St. Ex, had reopened to mixed reviews. It is a great spot that seems would work well for a cafe. I spotted a new sign that says they are under new management with a new menu. Anyone check them out yet? Any fans of this spot at all?

“Dear PoP,
Every day I walk on Irving St NW, and at the cross section with Hiatt Street (in between 14th & 16th st) there is a fenced in area, almost always with a security guard, and a few trailers inside. There are people walking in and out at all times, and the place seems rather busy at night. Any clue what this is?”
A cop once told me that this is a (temporary?) homeless shelter. The trailers look like they might be for (temporary?) housing. I’m pretty sure this is what he was talking about. Can anyone confirm this or know specifically what the trailers are for?

A cab driver was taking me home the other night and said, “oh you live near the new stadium”. I was like what? He was talking about the top of the building that we’d discussed in the past. I never thought of it as stadium like before. But I guess I could see it a bit. What do you think – stadium like?

“Dear PoP,
Do you know what happened on Irving and 14th Street, just in front of the Columbia Heights Metro around 7:00 pm last night? I didn’t see everything but I pieced it together from the other people standing there and was hoping you might have the full story. I guess a guy was trying to mug an older lady or something and when she didn’t give up her purse, he cold punched her in the face and started to walk away. The mugger took about two steps and then got drilled by some random dude who just laid him out like a linebacker – just form tackled the dude and put him on the ground. The mugger kept yelling and trying to get up, but the dude had the mugger pinned down with his face in the sidewalk, holding him until the cops got there. It was pretty awesome. Anyway, the cops came and took the mugger in. I didn’t stick around to see what else happened. Wondered if you have the rest of the story.”
Sounds like you got the whole story! Wild. I’m just glad they caught the would be mugger. Did anyone else witness this incident?

The building at 9th and Q, NW is starting to look good. It actually looks very close to the original rendering:
Do you like the way it’s turning out? Here’s what it looked like back in December.

It’s been a while since I posted just a regular condo. The inside looks pretty nice, with a fireplace and some exposed brick. What do you think of the condo itself? The asking price is $339,000, sound reasonable for this location?

Great news – they passed their inspection! Pho 14 (Park Road just west of 14th Street) will have their grand opening this Thursday (they’ll be doing some final training on Wed. but you might be able to convince them to let you dine in if you can’t wait until Thursday)! They will be open from 10am – 10pm. For the grand opening on Thursday they will be serving free egg rolls with your order. I’ll do a post on Friday/Monday to see what folks think. Bon appetit!
