Karaoke Coming To El Torogoz?

DSCN7626

I’ve always been a fan of El Torogoz located at the 4000 block of 9th Street (around the corner from Domku). Thanks to a reader for sending an announcement stating that El Torogoz is looking to add karaoke. Anyone think this is good idea? I think it could be awesome. I used to be a regular at a Korean karaoke place downtown, back in the day. I’m not sure if I’ve asked before, but where are your favorite spots for karaoke in the city? Full notice after the jump.

  • Uh.

I like the food, but it’s a bit, uh, uh, loud.

  • 9th and Green

Solly’s is a good time on alternate Wednesdays. You’re not allowed on stage unless in costume. Clever.

  • Sean In NW

I agree with saf — food is good but very loud… A small space how can they offer Karaoke?

  • zaitht

Gee, I thought it was just me regarding how loud their music was. What was worse, they had the stereo AND the freakin juke box going at the same time blaring different songs. Ridiculous. I’ve been on three different occasions and won’t be back. If you have a set of industrial ear plugs, the food was good but not worth going deaf over. Where do they plan on K? Outside? That place is small.

  • Toby

I like food to go from El Torogoz, such as carne asada, pupusas revueltas 9mixed with cheese and meat stuffing a Salvadoran style fat tortilla) or tamales de elote o de pollo.

  • Tom

If it’s too loud, go ahead and ask them to turn down the volume a bit – I’m sure they’d happily oblige in return for your business.

  • Tom – have you tried that? Doesn’t work. They smile, say “yes, yes,” and nothing.

I do like the food there. I only go when I can sit outside.

Recessions, in my book, has the best karaoke in town. I know people have an either love it or hate it relationship with that place. I land in the former. I have seen some of the best and worst performances there (and in karaoke world, the terrible performances have a rightful place alongside the good ones) on a regular basis.

Freddies beach bar in crystal city. hands down, best karaoke place in the area. I mean, it really doesn’t get better than a drag queen singing My Humps.

    Millie and Al’s, Adams Morgan

  • Ross

DOMKU! You are all missing out — first Saturday of every month.

  • Sean In NW

“saf” you are correct they smile and say “Yes, Yes” but do nothing. I am all about supporting our local businesses, but I gave El Torogoz a few tries and won’t be back.

Anyone know where a karaoke jockey could get a gig in Petworth/Totten/Brookland/North columbia heights. New to area and not sure who to try…
