These homes are located on the 400 block of Ridge Street, NW. I’ve mapped it because this is a real small hidden street:
Well, there are no curb cuts so what do you think – thumbs up or down?

This home is located at 2245 12th Place, NW:
The flier says:
“VERY UNIQUE 2BR, 1BA HOME ON QUIET TREE LINED ST JUST OFF U STREET CORRIDOR. INTERIOR FEATURES EXPOSED BRICK WALLS, LR W/ FPL W/ CUSTOM MASONRY SURROUND AND BUILT-INS, SEP DR, UPDATED KITCHEN. SKYLIGHT OVER STAIRWELL. GENEROUSLY SIZED MBR W/ GREAT CLOSETS, RENOVATED BATH & SPACIOUS 2ND BR W/ BALCONY. PRIV REAR PATIO. GARDEN. CALL TENANTS THE NIGHT B4 SHOW. A GREAT HOUSE WITH TERRIFIC CURB APPEAL.”
More info and a virtual tour found here.
I’m really a big fan of these small little hidden streets. So in addition to the price what do you think about the home itself? Do you dig the exposed brick? The asking price for this 2 bed 1 bath is $479,000. Given the location – reasonable?

The Little Fountain Cafe is located in a hidden little spot below the bar Angles at 2339 18th Street, NW. Here’s a look at the menu. It’s a great date spot and the food is often excellent. Full disclosure – I know the owner and chef pretty well. I previously mentioned it briefly when we spoke about hidden restaurants. But what do you guys think – thumbs up or down? Do you like any particular dish?

I posted the unfinished mural back in November. At that time in the comments there was some concern that the neighborhood demographics weren’t properly represented. But looking at the completed mural it is most definitely diverse:
There is even a decent likeness of me, if I was a little taller, dressed better, had a better camera and a Nordic girlfriend that is…

I love not having a destination on my walkabouts because I somehow always manage to end up stumbling upon the coolest places. So at first, I just thought this was a cool building with some sweet weathered old school signs. But upon further inspection I noticed a sign that said it was the Brass Knob’s warehouse.
The Brass Knob is the cool spot we looked at last May in Adams Morgan on 18th Street. This warehouse is located at 57 N Street, NW. I nearly had a heart attack when I entered and was greeted by dozens and dozens of old doors. Mind you, it’s been fairly well established I’m not 100% normal and of course post a “door of the day” feature. I guess you can imagine my reaction.
The place is huge. It has two floors and an outdoor area. In addition to doors there were hundreds of windows, radiators, bathtubs, and much much more. Super cool. Lots more photos after the jump. (more…)

Thanks to a reader for telling me about this sign located on a house around the 3900 block of 14th Street, NW. I have to admit, even though I took this photo from the sidewalk, I was pretty terrified that the door was going to open at any moment. Thankfully I had fully stretched and was prepared to run like the wind…

Thanks to a reader for sending:
“So, I noticed that a new Gelato store is going into the Metropole’s empty retail space next to Lulu Lemon.
http://washington.bizjournals.com/washington/stories/2008/06/23/story10.html
There’s now a sign up in the window though. Pintango Gelato coming soon!”
The Washington Business Journal wrote back in June:
“”It’s basically going back to the original gelato where it’s a very simple and wholesome dessert, without coloring,” [Noah] Dan said. Prices will range from $4.77 for a regular portion to about $6 for a large serving, big enough for two people, he said. All the gelato will be made in-house, using organic and locally farmed ingredients.”
Any gelato fans out there? How does it differ from regular ice cream?

Now this is truly odd. I had seen some archways between rowhomes that were apparently used as an entry for horses back in the day but this is completely different. The small door to the left is actually in the front of the house. Any idea what the story is here?
Ed note: I reserve the right to use this as a future caption contest…

Also comes the return of the best spot for a morning cup of coffee. Though I think this spot could use an ottoman for maximum comfort…

Damn this is a good one. Sweet stonework and finally another vestibule.

I thought this one was a bit wild. It looks like a normal rowhouse but it’s detached.

Columbia Heights Coffee located on 11th Street between Park and Monroe is offering a pretty good breakfast special. Though I have to admit, I’ve become pretty addicted to the egg sandwiches and tater tots over at Red Derby… Any other good breakfast specials out there?
