How are these tough guys? I’m not sure what to make of that. btw, these bikes have been popular in the Southwest for years. I especially like the tricycle models with stereos attached.

Any bike with ape hangers automatically makes the riders tough guys. Age and such does not matter!

What is the purpose of the extremely high handlebars? Is it more comfortable to cruise that way, or is it a “my handlebars are bigger than your handlebars” thing?

High handlebars (ape hangers) are a Harley thing, they are purely aesthetic. I am sure some weirdos find them more comfortable, but then again some people find sport bikes comfy.

Oh, and they got popular after Easy Rider and the Cap’n America bike therein. Grooovy….

Random useless factoid about ‘ape hanger’ bars that may or may not be true: they were originally formed from dismantled sections of the bottoms of supermarket shopping carts.
