“Here’s a pic of the overturned car at Otis and Park Pl. The story I heard was that the shooting started at Warder and Quebec. The guy in this car, got into his car and sped off. He had been shot. The white car had been parked along Park Pl.”
And from MPD via CM Bowser:
“On Monday, June 22, 2009, at 2156 hours units from the Third District were dispatched to the 600 block of Quebec Pl., NW, for the report of a shooting. Moments later they received a second run for a traffic accident involving an overturned vehicle two blocks away at the intersection of Park Pl & Otis Pl NW. Upon the arrival of the officers they located an adult female in the 600 block of Quebec Pl NW, suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. They located a male victim at the scene of the traffic accident in the 3600 block of Park Pl., NW. The male was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds which, it was learned, he received while he was in the 600 block of Quebec Pl., NW. The DCFD responded to the scene and transported the victims to area hospitals. The male was transported to MedSTAR, where he was pronounced dead at 2350 hours.”

Hope it wasn’t an innocent bystander. Otherwise, the oven’s set to self clean.

Ugh, I biked past that intersection this morning – there’s a pool of blood where those 2 cars were. The helicopters were hovering over the neighborhood for an hour or so…could not sleep. I also heard from a neighbor this morning that there was another shooting around New Hampshire/Shepherd/Taylor. Anything on that one?

No matter what your position on snitchin’ is, you’d think that ratting out the guy who killed you wouldn’t be verboten. I know the cops aren’t going to publish the name of the prime suspect at this point, but let’s just hope that among the male victim’s last deeds was uttering the name of his murderer — apparently, he was sufficiently conscious to communicate where he obtained multiple GSWs, and with multiple wounds, I’m guessing he wasn’t an innocent bystander. A quick arrest is the best we can hope for at this point.

anyone know anything about the woman was that was screaming in the street? was she the one shot in the leg? i think she was hurling the obscenities at police, but she must have yelled, ‘he’s an mother f*ckn’ crackhead’ for at least a solid half an hour.

Out of the box thought – eliminate currency, if everything was electronic, you would need far more sophisticated criminals in order to exist. If everything was processed through a card, the drug dealer would have to use his I-phone app to process the payment. The gov’t could then force the dealer to pay taxes, and thus we could fight crime with the tax revenue generated from drug/illegal gun sales/prostitution etc… If he refused to pay taxes, lock him up for tax evasion, no need to prove possession/intent to distribute etc…
Obviously, this could happen no time soon, but if you receive welfare, you shouldn’t be able to convert it to cash, because then it can be lost into the underground economy. If everyone was required to have direct deposit, the check cashing businesses would be out, and the mom n’ pop corner stores wouldn’t be able to skim off the top and avoid sales/income taxes…
Think about how much money would be saved if we stopped making it and having to outwit counterfeiters.

I actually live on the 600 block of Quebec Place. The shooting was right outside my house. The woman was shot in the leg and was bleeding on the sidewalk in front of my house. I saw them stuffing the bullet hole when the DCFD arrived. She was pretty calm until they put her on the stretcher and were moving her around and then she started yelling about her leg. According to neighbors, of the two people shot, they lived around the corner on Warder and were chased over here. The guy driving off in the black car was the person they were chasing, he tried to drive off. He died because homicide paid a visit to my house at 1 AM. THe helicopters were out until about 1 AM.

I heard the shots from Taylor (at least 5?). There were also shots at 2:35am that woke me up quickly.. Near the corner of Shepherd & 7th. I looked out my window and saw a car turn right off Shep and head up New Hampshire. A cop car arrived heading east on Shep about 4 minutes later, but I dont know what came of that. I checked out the scene this morning and saw 2 cars with bullet holes/blown out windows. The cop on the scene was collecting 9mm casings.

OK, I live maybe six blocks away from where this went down, but I realize and understanding that this incident may directly and/or indirectly affect me at some point. If not already…
And there are two issues that really bothered me here…
1) The fact that a double shooting occurred, which resulted in a homicide, is troubling. And when you factor in the details of what and how it happened… This is just a bit over the TOP…
2) Now the thing that really has me getting angry (Now, I know there was very big national story with the METRORAIL crash) is the lack of response from Council Member Graham and the one paragraph response from Council Member Bowser (as this happened in what I call the policing dead zone between Wards 1 (PSA302) and Ward 4 (PSA404)), the Mayor, and the Chief of Police in comparison to their response to the shooting at the Columbia Heights Metro Station a week ago…..
Not sure about others in the Petworth / Park View community but I am just not seeing the LOVE from our elected officials on issues that are affecting our community.
Last time I checked, we all pay taxes just like the communities of Columbia Heights, Adams Morgan, and U St in Ward 1 and Crestwood, Brightwood, and Shepherd Park in Ward 4……
So why should we as a community accept a lower level of service and/or support to resolving issues within our community.

More from CM Bowser:
“I wanted to bring you up to date on what we know about the gun shots in the 500 block of Shepherd Street NW last night about 3AM. Police report that at approximately 3:00 AM, MPD received several calls for the sounds of gunshots. Officers arrived on the scene and found at least four vehicles struck with gunfire. The area was canvassed for victims and or suspects with negative results. There is currently no look out information.
Earlier in the night just before midnight, a double shooting occurred in the Third Police District in Ward 1, in the 600 block of Quebec Street NW. A woman was shot in the leg and a man, was apparently shot there, fled in a vehicle that later crashed. The man died.
Police are investigating a connection between the 3AM 500 Shepherd Street gun shots and the earlier shooting and homicide in Ward 1. We are actively working with MPD and other agencies to address this suspected gang beef.
As you know, I

I wonder if some of this is not a consequence of the increased police presence around the Park View Rec Center. First, they started keeping the lights in the park on at night to drive away the dealers, users, and prostitutes. Then a police officer was stationed at the Rec Center and charged with patrolling the area. As a result, the groups of kids that used to congregate on Warder now congregate on Princeton, and the dealers have spread out onto other corners. I hope they keep the increased police presence up because it has been helpful overall.

People will continue to resort to violence because of there surroundings and because of lack of support from others (i.e. mentors, parents, grandparents). It’s a mentality issue. Eventhough this is not an excuse but it’s reality. It’s sad to know that a friend died due to senseless violence. No matter how they try to change the people that are coming into these old neighbors and hike up the prices for the homes; it will never solve the issues………A mother, father, sister, brother, significate other’s heart is heavy from this senseless shooting.

Eliminate currency? Seriously? Wow, that’s drastic. How about legalizing drugs, instead?
People the world over are very obviously willing to take tremendous risks for the obscene profits to be had in a black market for drugs. In a legal market prices would collapse, and the selling activity would no longer be clandestine/violent.
It’s time to connect the dots.

Tiffany, very sorry for your loss. If you don’t know about it, the DC Crime Victims Compensation Program is here:

Also, please do contact your appropriate rep from this page:
http://www.usdoj.gov/usao/dc/Community_Prosecution/Community_Meetings/index.html
and ask them for a ‘citizen impact statement’ which will allow you to indicate your loss to the judge, formally. I am sorry to say that without such a statement, its possible the arrested individual will be let go pending trial, where he might kill again.
(it might also be called a community impact statement)
Please do vent here and tell us what you think, if you feel the need.

Another blog today had this posting:
“The following just came across the 3DSubstation listserve from Inspector Jacob Kishter:
The Metropolitan Police Department announces the closure of the homicide that occurred in the Third Police District in the 600 block of Quebec Street,
Northwest, of Ryan Randy Trotman.
On Monday, June 22, 2009, at 2156 hours units from the Third District were dispatched to the 600 block of Quebec Pl., NW, for the report of a shooting. If the case is closed now, i do not think that the feds will be getting involved. My council member sent an email before saying that police was looking for possible connectionb between the shootings in Quebec and the shooting on teh 500 block of Shepherd–which apparently has not reported any victims other than the cars (and the owners of the cars i suposse).

For individuals who did not know Ryan(the victim of this shooting, a hardworking college graduate and working man) I applaud your barbaric and mentally below average comments as they give a clear picture of America’s true weakness: Humanity.
This should be a nice spoiler for those of you who think “endangered thugs” are the only ones who get hit.
But i guess its easy to be a coward behind a keyboard huh?
To those who just oved here for gentrification and post here out of fear: Good luck to you. Watch out for bullets because they do not carry identification numbers(really). If the bullets don’t stop you, maybe the crashing housing market will?(look at Harlem) Or maybe it won’t but either way you’ll be getting ripped of paying for a condo ten times what it’s really worth. (but i digress)
My last word would probably be to the morons who think this is a movie. If you need to be entertained by real human being’s pain, your life proabably sucks so move back to Wisconsin or what ever suburban hell you came from and pop in a movie. Rest in Peace Ryan and Peace to the other innocent young woman who got injured.
Peace

Judging by the posts above I think you and Mr. Graham have failed.
Besides your obvious posturing that you do at the scene of every incident you supposedly care about (check out the metro accident), I was particuarly annoyed by this one since you definetly don’t give a damn about Ryan.
