Often over-shadowed by the national museums, the DC art scene makes a spectacular roar in the form of a huge and intense month long arts festival known as Artomatic. Located this year literally on top of the Navy Yard Metro next to the new Nationals Stadium, the event features a staggering nine floors of artwork, over one thousand participating visual artists, as well as performers, workshops, and seminars. While the sheer volume of artwork is amazing, perhaps even more remarkable is the elaborate coordination, largely by artist volunteers, to secure space, manage registration and installation of all the artists, schedule staffing, handle marketing, a website, and a million other aspects.
