“This is Monster! She’s a 4 year old Boston Terrier who loves people and cuddling. Children love to poke her face and adults love to ask if she’s blind in one eye. She takes it all with a wag and a smile. She also enjoys spending time with our cat, Shrimp Scampi.”

“Pictured are Diego and Frida, during one of their calmer moments. Typically it’s hard to capture them in the same camera shot b/c they are constantly pouncing on each other, or racing up and down the long hallway of my apartment. Both cuddly and playful, they are THE coolest cats in POPville.”

“This is Cali, the meanest dog in the neighborhood. Well, one would assume this by the way people cross the street when they see her coming their way. The fact that she is the sweetest dog one could ask for, can be our little secret. No, she is not a grandma pit bull. She is a 3 year old chinese shar pei. This picture was taken while camping at Assateague Island. She looked like this the whole weekend because she loved sticking her face in the sand. If you see us walking around or at Meridian Hill Park, don’t hide, come by and say, “Hi.” ”

Ed. Note: The cats are not competing against the dogs. There will be 5 dog, cat and “other” finalists that will each compete in their own category. We’ll have a poll in each category to select the winner. Using the comments section for these posts will help me select the 5 finalists for each category. I’ve gotten some amazing entries, and a lot of them (over a 100)! So I’ll need your help selecting the finalists. Maybe at the very end we’ll put the three winners in each category up for an overall winner.

Picking up dog poop in Grant Circle eating fireworks on July 4th chasing tail at Clark School dog park leading Halloween costume contests and eating Rock Creek Ripples.

Yet, Taxi Dog needs your help. As you can tell, she is quite unloved, never getting any attention from her masters, and often feels lost in the wilderness of Petworth. Your vote will be a confirmation that she has in deed, left a paw print on the neighbourhood.”

“This is Liam, named after one of the Gallagher brothers of Oasis. You may have heard him barking in my backyard a few times. Although Liam can’t compete with Charlie the Corgi’s extracurricular and saintly activities, he does love to eat, poop, sleep, lick, scratch and PLAY….and, if I say so myself, he does these things very well.”

“This is Tallulah. She is a 3 month old pug and is already a general terror to the Petworth neighborhood. She can be seen disturbing the peace just south of Grant circle on Illinois, or sometimes keeping the porch at Qualia free of any ruffians. She enjoys short walks on shady days, scarfing down food like it is her last meal, and snoring loudly.”

My name is Pete and I have lived in all the hippest areas of NW– Logan, U Street, and am now settling into life in Brightwood… All of these neighborhoods saw a decrease of rat populations due to me. I enjoy hunting and have caught snakes, rats, birds (in mid-air) and chased down a wild hog. I was born in the country, but love the city life! I am not scared of anything– except Metro buses… but don’t they scare everyone a little bit?”
