The flier says:

“Best Deal Around! Bright spacious 1BR terrace level unit with private entrance. Freshly painted and shows beautifully. Hardwood floors and carpeting in BR. Steps to the exciting Adams Morgan nightlife, and a short walk across the bridge to the Metro! Location Location Location!”

More info found here and a mouse on house tour found here.

I’m interested to hear what you guys think about this one because I almost bought one of these terrace units in 2002. Interesting to note is that at that time the unit also sold for around $300k (I got way out bid). Obviously, this one is under contract so somebody think’s it a good deal but I’m wondering what you guys think. Do you like the private terrace? I never actually see folks on those terraces.   It was listing for $309,000. Sound reasonable?

Judging Restaurants – Ercilia’s

DSCN1110

Ercilia’s is located at 3070 Mount Pleasant St, NW. Those on Yelp are big fans of the pupusas. What do you guys think – thumbs up or down? Is it better as a carry out or eat in? Any other notable dishes besides the pupusas?

Molly the Dog Stolen Outside P Street Whole Foods – Returned Safely by MPD!

The case of Molly’s dognapping sparked a huge debate on DCist. It was pretty much a debate over whether or not it is ok to leave your dog outside when you go into store. How ever you feel about the issue, it’s great news the dog has been returned!

Here is some background:

“She has been seen twice at Petco in Cleveland Park with Molly – once on Monday night and again tonight. We are positive that it is Molly because the store manager and a customer (and Vizsla owner) described the dog as having a shaved patch on one of her forelegs. Molly has this patch from an IV for dental surgery last week. When the woman took her into Petco on Monday night, she still had her pink cupcake collar with tags. When she was in the store tonight, she was wearing a black harness with no collar. The woman told a customer tonight that someone gave her the dog. This description matches that of the one eyewitness who saw a person “messing” with Molly the night she was taken.”

And here’s the word from the owners:

“We wanted to let everyone know the wonderful news that our beloved Molly dog was recovered late tonight by the Metropolitan Police Department. She is back home and seems to be in good health, although tired. I plan to take her to the vet tomorrow.

The MPD District 3 investigator, who did an excellent job, couldn’t give me all of the details because of the way criminal investigations work. However, he did say that the woman who had her appeared to have mental health issues. I am hopeful that some court-ordered mental health treatment for the woman will result from this so that she does not take other dogs in the future, or spiral into more destructive behavior.

In any event, we want to offer our most heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported us and provided tips and leads. Without those leads, it’s unlikely the police would have had enough information to justify spending time investigating. I should also say that before the MPD investigator was assigned to the case, a D3 officer was very helpful in working with us. We will write letters commending both of them to their supervising officers. “

The News Everyone’s Been Waiting For – Room 11 To Open in August

DSCN1195, originally uploaded by Prince of Petworth.

I’ve been in contact with the owners of Room 11 on a weekly basis. I’m happy to report that they say:

“We received our certificate of occupancy last week and also passed the health department inspection.”

You can see photos inside the space, located at the corner of 11th and Lamont, here.

And here’s the scoop I received Monday afternoon – soft opening (not open to public) August. 4th, 5th, and 6th.  They will open to the public on August 10th. Of course it’s possible that those dates could change by a day or two but since they’ve got the certificate of occupancy (c of o) they are good to go. There are a few finishing touches needed but you’ll be able to check them out very soon!

Ed. Note: I’m sure there will be a minority that is not happy about this space. And I’m fairly confident they are a very small minority. But those that don’t like this idea are welcome to leave their opinions of course. What I would suggest is that a more helpful response is, not to complain about the “whiners”. That is a vicious circle that really does no good for anyone. I suggest, if you like the spot or the idea of the spot then simply say so. If there are 20 positive comments and 5 negative comments then the sentiment is there. But we don’t need to get into this endlessly repetitive argument of those who like wine bars vs. those that think it is too expensive or whatever. If that’s how they feel then that’s how they feel and that’s cool too. But, if you like it – say so. For the record I am super psyched about this joint and can’t wait to visit it often.

Dear PoP – Black Squirrel Update (Third Floor Possibly To Become a Martini Bar)

DSCN1169, originally uploaded by Prince of Petworth.

“Dear PoP,

Was there on Sunday and the patio is indeed open now. (a little small, but nice all the same) The bottom floor will be open sometime soon – a guy was working on graffiti for the walls when we were there. But the newest news is that they are also working on getting the TOP floor open sometime in the future. Supposedly as a martini bar. Our bartender seemed to think the bottom floor would be more about music and dancing, middle about beer , and top about martinis (maybe a lounge?).

Sounds awesome is all I can say. Black Squirrel is hands down my favorite place in Adams Morgan and the owners and staff really give them a one up on the rest of the street. And all the amazing beer and food doesn’t hurt.”

Very cool news! Black Squirrel is located at 2427 18th Street, NW.

Dear PoP – Lots of Progress at New Dog Park at 17th and S, NW

DSCN1088, originally uploaded by Prince of Petworth.

“Dear PoP,

The little triangle dog park between New Hampshire, 17th, and S St, NW is coming along nicely. They constructed a little hill in the middle that is covered in what looks like astroturf instead of grass for the dogs.”

Very nice. What’s the hill for?

Oh Man, Does It Have to be This Explicit?

DSCN1145, originally uploaded by Prince of Petworth.

I’m usually quite fond of dog signs. But I think this one goes over the line. I think we’d get the point if it was just squatting. The excrement is a bit much… Or I guess it’s saying it’s ok if the dog urinates, it just can’t defecate. Oh lord, I’m sorry, I think I’m thinking way too deeply on this one!

Emergence Community Arts Collective Gets Burglarized, Help Out if You Can

0904081751

Tina wrote about this great organization, located at 733 Euclid Street, NW, back in September ’08. It seems they’ve had a “minor setback” (from an email):

“We had a break-in last Friday evening which has left me without a laptop or backup drive (lesson learned – don’t keep them together). There were a number of valuables taken, but nothing that really was at the heart of what we do, and for that I am grateful.

Between the losses and funds needed to secure the doors, we will have about $2,000 worth of unexpected expenses. If you would like to help out with a tax-deductible donation, we would greatly appreciate it. You can donate online at http://www.ecacollective.  Alternatively, if you would like to donate any of the following items, please contact me at (202) 462-2285.

Laptop Computer
Backup Hard Drive
Digital Camera
Digital Audio Recorder
Cordless Phone set
Power Tools (drill, jigsaw, sander)
Stereo

Fortunately, the list of things that weren’t taken is much longer. Many thanks to Jo Strowder and Dr. Ernest Quimby who jumped in with last minute loaner equipment so we wouldn’t have to cancel our children’s Summer Heritage Program today, and to those who have been helping me reconstruct the last six months.

Your patience is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Sylvia”

Thank You PR Running Store – Official Sponsor of PoP’s Running (Walking) Shoes

DSCN4699, originally uploaded by Prince of Petworth.

As I mentioned earlier I’ll be quitting my job and taking PoP full time in the next few months. As such I was going over my finances (I’m selling my car if anyone wants a 2000 Honda Civic with only 37,000 miles on it…) and I realized I was spending a lot of money on running shoes. For some reason some folks don’t believe me, but I get nearly all of my photos and info from walking around the city. I generally cover 30-40 miles every Friday – Sunday. I literally walked a hole in my last pair of shoes. A friend of mine, jokingly, suggested I try and get a shoe sponsor. But I figured, hell it was worth a try.

I am pleased to announce that Potomac River Running Store with multiple locations in the DC area has agreed to be the official sponsor and supplier of my running shoes. They have multiple locations but I go to the Cleveland Park store located at 3513 Connecticut Ave, NW. I am super psyched to announce this sponsorship. Even before the sponsorship, all of my experiences with PR Running have been phenomenal. They have super knowledgeable and super nice folks running the Cleveland Park store. I can now walk around the city in comfort – thanks again Potomac River Running!
