Dear PoP - “14th Street…what the heck is going...

A Reader Sends In a Quick Review of Mid City Caffe

Ed. Note: At the time I posted about Mid City Caffe’s opening this past weekend, I also mentioned that the YES! Organic Market will be opening Monday with a ribbon cutting. Council Member Bowser’s office says that YES will now open still open on Monday Wed. at 10am but the ribbon cutting has been pushed to the 24th.

“Dear PoP,

I stopped by Mid City Caffe (1626 14th Street, NW) this morning for a latte on my way to U Street for brunch. It’s a very cute, very low key little place and the traffic was steady but not overwhelming. The espresso was quality and I’m looking forward to the chocolate croissant I took to go. There are plenty of seats inside, but folks who want to park at a table and quietly take in the Internets on their MacBooks should have their iPods charged; it’s just the tiniest bit noisy when as people come and go.

All in all, though, it’s a comfort to have this little gem around the corner.”

I too stopped by this weekend and the place really does look great. See some more photos of the inside after the jump.

The coffee and atmosphere are excellent! If you actually needed any more reasons to stop by Pixies…well, now you have it.

Also, I dont know how long it is going on, but we were there this weekend and in the back room (usually the storage area/garage) Pixie is having a graffiti art show…it was really cool.

The Berburs were quite pleased with the quality of the coffee drinks (one decaf, one soy latte) that they had at Mid-City on Sunday morning. Certainly ranks up there with the best in the area and is far better than what one can obtain from Starbucks. The pastries looked quite inviting, but assessment of them must wait for a day when we can withstand the extra caloric intake.

Two thumbs up to mid city caffe! Very homey atmosphere and coffee and bagels were excellent. One tiny complaint: no butter for the bagels. I’m also curious about the decision to leave the space as two separate rooms – the smaller room with the stools seems a little sad.

Locally I prefer NPR and WPFW. I also listen to Seattle's KEXP on the internet.
