“I’m writing in to report a shooting in the 3600 block of Warder, between Princeton and Quebec, last night. I crashed early and apparently slept through it, but a policeman came to my door at 7:00 this morning and told me that a woman was shot late last night (I’m not sure if she survived or not). The whole block is currently taped off, and police are investigating.”
Has anyone heard any more details?
“Dear PoP,
Like millions of others in this shitty economy, I’m unemployed and looking for work. There’s only so much cold-calling and resume sending one can do in a day though, and I was wondering if you and your readers could highlight volunteer opportunities in PoPville for those jobseekers among us bored out of our minds during the search?”
We’ve looked at volunteer opportunities in the forum section here. There are some good options out there. But the PoP forum is pretty dead. So if folks know of good places to volunteer please leave them in the comments section here and I can refer folks to this post in the future. And to the original reader who sent in the email – thanks for asking, I admire your decision to do this.

Well, I’ll be honest – I had no idea who she was at the time. People kept running up to her getting her autograph on New Hampshire Ave just across from the Petworth Metro. Folks were yelling, there’s Mya, there’s Mya. They were truly deliriously happy. And I kept asking is that M.I.A.? M.I.A.? And they’re like, no that’s Mya!!! Oh, ok well I checked out Wikipedia and she is a big deal:

I’ve been thinking a lot about these poems. If Reuben does decide to move from this city it is going to be a huge loss for us. We need more thoughtful poets in this town.
Reuben explains his writing:
“I am not sure I would call these “haiku”. In fact, I would not. They are 17 syllable “poems” looking at a side of this city (Washington, DC) which increasingly nags at me (to say the least). I am trying to do something with the very “Southern” aspects of life here-aspects which so-called home rule (etc.) has not changed. Finally, they are the -ahem-ahem- “musings” of a middle aged black man trying to come to grips with the tension, changes, what have you in what my Mom accurately dubbed a “big-small Southern town”.

Ha, this is a pretty good one. I had no idea what it was but apparently it comes from a children’s book called “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs”. I’d never heard of that book, have you guys?

Actually I really like this photo because of the slate retaining wall. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a slate retaining wall look this good. What do you think – thumbs up or down?

It’s amazing how the small addition of flower boxes can make a balcony look so much better.

I think this may also have been part of Bloomingdale’s First on First but I just saw it last weekend.

This is a possible re-PoP but this is my absolute favorite bungalow in the city. It’s on Illinois north of Grant Circle. These cedar shingles are the bomb! One day I will have them too…

Speaking of Japanese restaurants, Kushi Izakaya will be located at 465 K Street, NW near the Bus Boys & Poets in the City Vista building. It looks like it’s going to be a pretty big space. I’m looking forward to checking it out. It looks like work hasn’t yet begun constructing the space so I’m not sure what the time frame on the opening is but I’ll be sure to update when it does.

The following was written by blogger Pretty Smart.
Dear College Interns & Recent Graduates:
The next time the carpet in the bedroom of your summer sublet is wet and changing colors, please call your landlord and let her know. This changing color is due to mold that is caused by a leak in the building. The leak, and subsequently the mold, cannot be fixed unless you tell someone. This is why your lease states

The “other” category is having some fierce competition. At the moment Calliope (the bird) has a 300 vote lead over Flash (the rabbit) while Claudius (the guinea pig) is hanging in there in third place. “Other” voting is open until Friday 11:59pm. There were a lot of great cat entries but I had to pick five so here goes. Cat voting will be open until next Wed. night 11:59pm. Dog finalists will go up Friday.
Here are the cat finalists (I couldn’t narrow down to five so Eight it is. I suspect the dogs may have 10 finalists… The name corresponds with the photo ABOVE):
Lumpy
Oliver
Ike
Oreo
Twizz
Miiister
Toby

I was psyched to see this great shot from mediaslave. It is near H Street, NE. I walked past this exact spot last weekend and admired the building but my camera broke. So I couldn’t believe when I saw this shot in the PoPville flickr pool. Too cool.
Submit your photos via email or to the PoPville flickr pool here.
