Freecycle DC gone bad from Digest Number 7385. A friend of mine found this and I knew immediately I had to share it as well. Since I’m not a member of freecycle my friend emailed me the text:

“OFFER: Bag full of dog hair exc. for pillow – NW

I have a supermarket-size bag full of dog hair. I was going to make my own pillow but never got around to it.”

Oh man, I think I should end this “two good two good” feature right now because I don’t know how this one can be topped. However, if you can top it with something truly absurd send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com.

  1. This has to be the work of my former landlord, who upon refusing to refund my security deposit solely on account of “pet hair”, claimed she had a bag full of my dog’s hair if I wanted to see it.

I’ve always thought it would be awesome to make such pillows from dog and cat hair and give them to allergic friends / relatives / coworkers who I less than like.

Oh man that definitely is absurd… Great idea Pennywise :D

I suppose that’s re-using at it’s very best. I like to collect my pets hair so when they die, I can put the hair under the bed and pretend they are still alive. But that’s just me.

I collected my own dog’s hair – my sister will (someday) spin it into yarn and knit (something).

Apparently she’s not the only one turning a plentiful supply of pet hair into something useful – “Knitting With Dog Hair: Better A Sweater From A Dog You Know and Love Than From A Sheep You’ll Never Meet” is a book available on Amazon.

I saw an ad on craigslist once that read:

“New in town, looking for a friend to go out with. Will be your wingman, you take best, I’ll take the rest”

Wow – I actually did spin & knit dog hair! I was working in Alaska about 30 summers ago – brushed about 30 sled dogs, had 10 garbage bags of hair – carded it, spun it (very poorly – it came out thick as rope) and then had enough to knit HALF a hat that never stopped smelling like dog. (I didn’t think this up – people who really knew what they were doing were really selling dog-hair sweaters in gift shops.)

But I do remember hearing a story on NPR about contemporary dog-hair knitters. Someone was knitting a bikini. . . And here it is – can’t believe I found it.
