Well, I thought for sure it was going to rain like crazy on Columbia Heights Day. Thankfully, someone worked some mojo and while it was a bit cloudy in the morning the afternoon turned into a beautiful day. Like last year the photos really give the best description. Though like last year my favorite part was the cupcake eating contest. But beyond the cupcakes the best part is really just seeing folks from all over the neighborhood listen to music and have a good time.
Lots more photos after the jump.
Music
BBQ
Petting Zoo always a big draw
More Cupcake eating shots
DC Council Chair Vincent Gray is a guest judge
The Champ
Food from Room 11
Fojol Brothers also offered awesome eats.

WXPN out of Philadelphia. There's not even a close second for music.
So what’s the story with the acrobat girls? They look they weren’t even part of the official day – just randomly set up next to their car or something.

sigh…I wish the people who organize Adams Morgan Day would learn some lessons from the Columbia Heights folks…frankly I wish the current organizer sof Adams Morgan Day would be forced to give it up, but since that’s not happening anytime soon, wish they would think a bit more creatively about it.
While Charlie may not have won the semi finalists for Coolest Pet in Popville, he did manage to win Best Trick at the CH Day Dog Show! So take that Dr Dre!!! lol.
ps those acrobat girls are pretty BADASS!!!
Again this year, we appear to have arrived (and left) too early for the good stuff. We were parched at 11:30, but couldn’t find a vendor to sell us a cold drink, so had to mosey on.
Petting zoo was fantastic. Loved the ferret and the tortise.
Does anyone know when Mt. Pleasant Day is? It might not even be called Mt. Pleasant Day all I remember is last year it was a total festival and so much fun. Is it in September? Did I miss it?
Its not called Mt Pleasant day its actually called Fiesta DC (http://www.fiestadc.org/).
Why does the official “Co Hi Day” t-shirt have blood spatters on it? Not appropriate.
Yeah and unfortunately Fiesta Dc will be moved to 14th street instead of Mount Pleasant street, oh well….
I went to Mt. Pleasant Fiesta whatever once….it was awful…avoid.
DC Fiesta was supposed to move to 14th St., which is why we bumped our festival up a month. Unfortunately, it didn’t come together so they will be back in Mt. Plez again this year on 9/26 or 27, I don’t know which.
Also, it’s not blood, silly. It’s supposed to be a paint splatter. Oh well, we’ll have a whole new shirt next year. Maybe “C Heights Day” this time…hehe.
On behalf of all the dedicated volunteers that worked all year long (nobody that runs the festival gets paid), we want to thank the awesome volunteers that worked in the hot sun all day long, all of our friends that worked their asses off at the local restaurants and all of you that came out and had fun. We were really happy with this years success and it made the work that we put into the organization over the last 2 years worth it.
Yeah, pity about the move. Fiesta DC belongs in MtP.
The Latino Festival has outgrown Mt. Pleasant and will be permanently relocated, sooner or later. I heard it may or may not be happening this year, since much of the neighborhood isn’t too thrilled about it.
of course we in “mount pleasant” aren ‘t thrilled about it FUN that is a big taboo in our little “village in the city” god forbid fun and frolic with out an agenda. oh and sin of all sins part of a road may be blocked off. i should not have been suprised that when i moved here my neighbors welcomed me not with a homemade cake but a hairshirt. the only time we get our FUN on here is halloween. the woman who pulls that off must be a miracle worker.
Allison, do you work with FIESTA DC???? Can I volunteer this year???

Stumbled over the Hispanic Festival on Mt. Pleasant last year (was on my way with the stroller to Target to shop for baby shoes) and it was awesome! Highlights included the free bouncy house, the little kid who sang in Spanish on the side stage, and the parade dancing groups, especially the ladies decked out in full Carnivale regalia. Lots of color.
Mt Pleasant Day is not currently operational.
The street festivals were nice the first 20-25 I went to.
The people organizing Fiesta DC have no new ideas.
Last year volunteers for CH Day told me and some others to Go F Ourselves in front of children and the police were called. that was really low class, so we didn’t go this year. Sounds like it was fun and maybe there were new volunteers.
