anon 2:55 asked:
can anyone tell my why its hip or artistic to take black and white photos?

Answer:
No. You are the only one here who claimed it was hip or artistic. Clearly it's time to raise the revolutionary banner of art fascism. Kill kill kill! Arm the Cavity Creeps and storm the gates of the Hirshhorn Museum! We shall roast our evening meal over the burning cinders of provocative art and pick our teeth with the bone-shards of beatniks!

Black and white photos have more character. They are more artistic since you have to play with the light and shadow.

"can anyone tell my why its hip or artistic to take black and white photos?"

Removing color from composition forces your eye to see repetition in patterns, lines, etc.

For me, black and white works here because your eye sees the multiple stacks of books on the left and the contrast of the clutter on the right along with the horizontal lines of the brick. Adding color would confuse the eye and cause the viewer to be distracted by labels, book spines, the color of her tanktop etc.
