“This Is Not A Hipster Pin”, originally uploaded by kestrel127.
“Dear PoP,
Saw a guy on the metro this morning wearing a largeish lapel pin. It had a silver rim, a blue field, silver outline of the District, and red bars and stars. It looked expensive and official, and like it was meant to remind us of the pins members of Congress wear.
Any idea what this is?”
Hmm, I haven’t seen one of those before. Perhaps they are given to Council Members? Anyone know?
Ed. Note: Couldn’t find a DC lapel pin on flickr…

You can buy all kinds of DOD and military lapel pins on ebay if you’re a contractor trying to ingratiate yourself- wouldn’t surprise me if someone printed these up downtown for DC Gov’t officials.
This pins will make perfect gifts for all my hipster friends.
Ha! Coincidentally, I bought Marion Barry pins from that very same vendor at Crafty Bastards. My favorite says “Bitch Set Me Up.”
Same size/font as pictured above.

On the 6 train in NYC the other day I saw someone with a Alfred E. Newman lapel pin. And thought, ahh, this is why I moved. No self-important lapel pins here.

FYI, the vendo who sells those hipster / Marion Barry pins (I know her in real-life) has a website at http://craftgasm.etsy.com/
I’m not sure the hipster pins are up on the site for sale yet (I think she made them just for Crafty Bastards), but I’m sure that anybody who is interested could use the email form to get one.
