Dear PoP – Any Neighborhood Networking Opportunities for Folks that Work From Home?

“Dear PoP,
Are you aware of any neighborhood (CH & Petworth) networking groups for people who work at home in the area? I am an international lobbyist with an office in Seattle but when I am in DC, I work from home. I have been thinking that it would be great to have an opportunity to network and socialize periodically with others like me – since we don’t have the benefits of working at an office downtown. What do you think?”
I know Wayan Vota had a group meet at Domku (800 block of Upshur) a few weeks ago but I’m not sure if there were any follow up meetings. Are other folks interested in something like this? If you’d like to chose a location and date/time, I’d be happy to do a follow up post announcing it to others.

I would be done with something like this. I work from home in Petworth and find myself rarely getting out of the house so it would be a nice change.
I tried to work at Domku once and didn’t have much success with their WIFI and no one there could really do anything about it.
It looks like there is a group that has gotten together before…

I usually don’t work from home, but i did last Friday, well I didn’t go to the office and ended up working at Tynan and that place seems to me like a heaven for home workers since it is nice and spacey, has free wifi and has a power outlet at nearly every table. and the place is usually full of people and their laptops. so seems like a perfect place for an event like this.
Hey Petworth Professionals (and those in Columbia Heights as well), I’d love to keep the work from home crew from going stir crazy by organizing another Happy afternoon.

I work remotely & joined a meetup group for DC metro residents – http://www.meetup.com/The-DC-Metro-Telecommuters-Meetup-Group/?a=fd_new_rsvp_multi_grp – they meet up all around the area at cafes pretty regularly.
A few of us started a mini meetup group from there, for NW-ers on Fridays. In fact, I think we’re headed to Tynan next Friday (the 30th), anyone’s welcome to share the table!
Networking aboard the Miss Ann down at the gangplank, would be a nice treat. I’ve been trying to get the owner to form a local club of sorts for some time.

International lawyer working from home… I’d love to meet up with ther CH/PW professionals. Though, I think that Domku Petworth group looks a little too “cool” for me, I’d need to clean the spit-up off my black t-shirt.
It’s interesting that Tynan has very quickly become more of a cyber cafe than a regular coffee shop.
I suggest Cafe Collage (on T St NW next to Saint Ex, which is on the corner of 14th and T NW ) as a possible site for this. I’ve never had a problem with Domku’s Wifi. I have had problems with the wifi at a couple of other Big Places in the neighborhood, but it was the wifi itself, not the cafes’ fault.
