Woah. That’s some good house porn. The reader writes, “This is some unbelievable house porn, just up Columbia Road from the Reagan Hilton. Wow. And the interior decoration is just indescribable.” What do you think of the interior?
It’s yours for $2,695,000…

I ride by almost every day, often twice a day. The renderings on the billboards at the...

WXPN out of Philadelphia. There's not even a close second for music.
+1 just not getting what the hope was of posting this.
Geesh! No complaints here. This house is truly gorgeous and well worth the price. True house porn for sure!
Amazing! Gorgeous! So nice to see all of the original trim and moldings intact, and not painted. My only nit to pick is that three of the upper level bedrooms share only one bathroom…
Gorgeous. Does the furniture come with the house
Interesting though that there are no pics of the top floor. Could it be an addition?
The Reagan Hilton? -Everyone I know calls it the Hinckley Hilton.
Really? The only use I can imagine for this place, as it looks now, is something like a tiny embassy, for lots of stuffy receptions and whatnot. It’s much to museumy to be a home. And is that a glass museum display case in the front hall??
Not my cup of tea, though that might be just my personal aesthetic reaction.
Can I imagine living in this house? No. Is it awesome? Yes.
‘glass display case’? The only thing I see in the front hall is a mirror.
I like the fact that not every guest bedroom has their own bathroom. Why pay for all that real estate and construction expense for rooms that would be used by guests only a few minutes a year? Not to mention the historical inaccuracy would be tragic in a house whose authenticity has been so carefully preserved.
I love it. Some of the furnishings are a little too ornate for me, but the house itself is gorgeous.
I think a suit of armor would get this place sold in no time. Maybe one of the wenches over at Ye Olde House Stagers could help.
You have to enter Bedroom 3 though a closet and/or Bedroom 4? That’s kind of weird. No one is buying this house for functionality, though.
With places like this, I sort of wish there were two prices: one for the house itself and another for the house as furnished. I got the sense that if I plopped down my furniture in this place, the house might throw me out. Beautiful restoration, in any case, and nice location, even if it is a little busy at that intersection.
It has too much stuff in it but I’ll give them their props for preservation. If I had the bank it would be mine. All I can do is say a prayer that a rich as hell family will buy it and keep it intact and not some stupid condo developer who will chop it up and destroy the details.
LOVE the original moldings, etc… but a few snarky comments:
1) What is up with that bed frame? Its like dracula’s bed or something. I cannot imagine that gives you dreams of gumdrops, ponies, and marshmallow clouds.
2) I imagine if you buy houses like this you need weird uncomfortable furniture. WHEN I win the lottery, I will maintain my use of comfy couches, etc… so this house is gorg, but not for me and my future winnings.
Finally, again, I love the entrance. That brick work is RIDIC!
Open HOUSE, people. Get thee to Columbia road and the HINKLEY Hitlon and see it for yourself!
I was thinking today as I bought lottery tickets: when I win the lottery I am going to buy every known drug house in Columbia Heights and Petworth. And maybe the entire Columbia Village project too if there’s enough left over.
It amounts to paying people not to commit crimes, sure, but as far as bang for the buck goes is it any worse than, say, the mayor’s summer employment program? I wonder if anyone’s ever tried something like this before. It is pretty well established that most of the gang/drug crime (outside of projects) emanates from a small number of problem houses. I wonder what the effect would be of just buying them all out. Assuming crime goes down dramatically, you’d at least expect to get a good return on your investment…
It’s like my grandmother’s house in 1955.
Loved grandmother’s house, now it’s an apartment house.
Geez people, there’s no rule that historic houses have to be furnished with historic furniture. A nice mix of modernist and traditional can work very well.
ugh, fugly kitchen and master bathroom. And the baby diarrhea colored ceiling needs to go, too.
gorgeous all the way around. if some of the antique furniture and a few statues convey, then all the better.
Watch out for Colonel Mustard and the candlestick when you’re in the library.
Wow! Definitely the house-porniest thing we’ve seen in a while. For people with wads of cash and traditional taste, this is a gorgeous house.
The architecture is beautiful, I think the furniture is a tad bit traditional for my taste, feels like you’re living in the Smithsonian Castle or something.
The white house to the right(2005 Columbia) is in a protracted fight with the city, the neighbors and the ANC because it purports to be a B&B but the proprieters don’t live on site (as they are required to) and they want more rooms than it’s zoned for. While not necessarily a problem, definitely something any potential buyer should keep in mind.
yikes. for some reason I feel totally claustrophobic looking at those pictures.
and the decor is straight out of Liberace’s house.
I wonder if my bustle and/or hoop skirt has been darned by the maid yet?
