“Justice Park” is coming soon to Euclid Street, NW just west of 14th Street. It is a pretty decent sized lot so it’s nice to see another park on the way.

Best fish tacos in town. Yuca and horchada aren't too bad either.
Any idea where we can get some info on the park design, etc.?

love the ironic name
The plans for this park are at http://dpr.dc.gov/dpr/cwp/view,a,1239,q,642666.asp
Looks like a community garden will be the main use.
Maybe all the drunk adults from the park at 11th and Monroe will move down there.
To “J:”
Delinquents already beat the drunks. There is a standard gaggle that hangs out right next to Justice Park (the irony is rich) at most hours of day and night, sitting on milk crates.
However, I did correlate two police cars parked at the BP across the street with the conspicuous absence of said loiterers.
mmkk: The park is named after former Atlanta Braves outfielder David Justice, who apparently donated money toward its completion.
based on everyone’s comments so far, clearly the best use of this space would be a leash-free dog-only park.
last week I was just saying to myself that the space would be perfect for a small park.
Speaking of the police cars at the BP, yesterday there were no less than 2, but usually 4 cars parked there the whole day. New trend? I hope so.
Did anyone notice there is a similar sign up at the Parkview Rec Center? Funny – I thought there was already a park there?
This is replacing the existing Justice Park across the street, apparently (it’s going to be cleared for condos eventually):

The Council’s Justice Park Act of 2003 indicates it has been going by that name since at least ’95. There are a few possible sources / justifications for the name in the next of the Act:
The park sits on the hill above the corridor that was decimated by the riots
that followed the killing of Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. With a fountain inside the park that is slated to be restored, the site calls to mind the phrase that King invoked, “Let justice flow down like waters, and righteousness like a mighty stream.”
The park was formerly the site of the Teferis Israel Synagogue, and as such
is viewed by many as sacred ground and a place that should be used to inspire the struggle for is viewed by many as sacred ground and a place that should be used to inspire the struggle for justice for all.
At the other end of the 1400 block of Euclid 49 years ago, Queen Julianne
of the Netherlands gave a historic speech at Meridian Hill to celebrate her country’s surviving the Nazi scourge. In dedicating the Netherlands Carillon, now located at Arlington Cemetery, she rang the smallest bell in the Carillon, saying, “We must always listen to the smallest bells, for they are symbols of justice.”
Etc. Not sure which, if any of these, is correct.
Er, “the text of the Act”.
Wow, then I guess the true origin of the park’s name is a mystery!
Justice Park.. hmm.. can we setup gallows and electric chairs to play on?
Maybe they can install some security cameras so my car window doesn’t get smashed in again like last Friday night for a couple pairs of sunglasses. Happened directly across the street from the proposed Justice Park.
