This beauty looks recently repainted. Nicely done. (From Adams Morgan)

The Washington Post’s Tom Sietsema has the scoop:
“The owner of the wine-themed Proof in Penn Quarter has signed a lease for a second restaurant in Logan Circle. Estadio is its name, and Spanish will be its game.”
This is in the spot where the Garden District formerly sold its indoor plants. I’m very much looking forward to following the progress on this place. Stay tuned…

Well, when I said JJ’s Philly Cheese Steak was going to open on Friday, I did mention they may have a soft opening before then. So thanks to all who have sent in emails. JJ’s is definitely open at 1939 14th St., NW.
So, any intital reviews/reactions?

On Monday evening I was able to get a sneak preview of the National Museum of Crime & Punishment’s Haunted House tour. The museum is located at 575 7th St, NW in Penn Quarter.
The museum says:
“From 1916-1960 125 men were executed in the Tennessee Electric Chair. In 2008, the chair made its way to the National Museum of Crime & Punishment…and so did its ghosts.”
I have to say, while I wasn’t terrified it was lots of fun. Guests must be over 17 years old and tickets cost $20. To get tickets you can purchase them at the front desk of the museum or go buy them online.
A few more photos after the jump though it is much scarier in the dark… (more…)

“Dear PoP,
Do you know any good companies that have experience installing flooring (tile, composite , laminate) in basements?”
Sadly, I’ve got 25 year old carpet in my basement. Anyone have some recommendations?

This home is located at 803 Euclid Street, NW:
The flier says:
“A stunning example of a fine urban row house. Recent renovation shows the possibilities of a 1924 home turned into a livable piece of art. How about FOUR? Four levels, Four bedrooms, Four bathrooms. .. but still one of a kind. Maple and concrete floors, high ceilings, recessed lighting, In-Law-Suite(appt), garage parking, top of the line finishes throughout.”
More info and photos found here.
I’m pretty sure I’ve featured this house as house of the day before so it’s pretty cool to get a look at the inside. It’s a pretty serious renovation, dying to know what you guys think. Do you think $769,900 is a realistic asking price for this 4 bed/4 bath? I’m thinking it’s a bit on the high side.

Oriental Cafe is located at 1636 R Street, NW. So what’s the scoop on this spot? Is it good for dining in or just delivery? Any must order dishes? Ed. Note: I still think Oriental is not the preferred nomenclatureanymore, be it a cafe or a deli…

“Dear PoP,
As of ten minutes ago (ed note: received at 12:37 am) this was the scene outside my apartment at 17th and Crescent in Adams Morgan. Saturday morning a water main broke and took about 17 hours and change to fix from about 7 AM when work crews arrived until 11:30 PM when the water went back on and big metal plates were left to cover the street.
The past two nights private contractors (the trucks say “Flippo Construction”) have arrived around 7 PM to shut down the street and work on the giant hole in the middle of 17th. A neighbor has confirmed they are not there during the day, only at night.
Putting aside the fact there’s a generator and stadium lights outside my bedroom window, I’m compelled to ask, how is this cost efficient? This section of 17th has little traffic any time, but is downright dead during the day. Why wait until night and pay crews more, and pay for energy to run a generator for lights?”
This has to be because of traffic flow right? Can cars get around the hole during the day? If not why would they wait until evening to fix it?

This is a huge spot located at 1337 14th Street, NW (which used to be the old Dakota Cowgirl space). It is actually two concepts. Downstairs is the more restaurant focused Birch & Barley and upstairs is the beer focused Church Key (though there are also dining options for the upstairs space). I was able to take some preview photos on Wed. and the place is looking good – it finally opens to the public on Thursday. Be sure to let me know what you think. For the beer lovers, you will have lots and lots of options (500 bottles, 50 drafts, and 5 casks).

Thanks to a twitter user for the heads up. I spotted the artist working on it today and it turns out it is one of my favorite muralists – Joel Bergner. You can see a profile I did on Joel here. I’ll be sure to update when it is completed.

Thanks to all who sent emails about the new Peruvian Style Chicken & Steak place. While it wasn’t open when I walked by today they did have a new “coming soon” sign up. I didn’t even know it was going to be called Senor Chicken. That’s a freaking awesome name. Thanks also to a reader for sending these photos. It is located on Park Road a bit west of 14th Street, NW. But from the photo below – it really does look like it’ll open soon. Stay tuned…

Hmm, I’m not sure but I know some friends were pissed when they closed the pool. Looks like a ton of work is going on. Does anyone know if it’ll become another sports club or something else?

Who is this ad supposed to be appealing to guys or girls? I’m not really a huge chocolate fan but when I look at this ad, I just want to get her a napkin.
