As a Woodner resident myself I am extremely concerned about the level of security in the building; the building is notorious for housing some pretty sketchy individuals. Though security is adamant at times to log in tenants’ visitors, they often let people without key cards wander in after other tenants during all hours.

I’m sure many of us will have trouble sleeping tonight. I hope for Ms. Amaya’s family’s sake that they find comfort in justice being served soon, though she will be missed in the community.

To those who continue to post what they are not sure is correct information as fact, I suggest you look for more productive ways of spending your time (i.e. research).

I live on the 11th floor and am VERY close to where this happened. I heard the brother screaming and crying for hours last night. Apparently he had one of the staff open her door after not hearing from her for a few days. It was horrible. I was able to decipher him crying for his sister using what little Spanish I know. Ironically enough my lease is up this month. I’m obviously conflicted about what to do. I could have possibly been in an apartment within spitting distance of this when it happened and could do nothing.

The Woodner alone has TEN TIMES as many tenants as Kenyon Square and Highland Park buildings have–combined. That’s not an exaggeration. Woodner has 1100 units and several times that many tenants.

It is easy to look at mere statistics by address and presume that The Woodner is a more ‘hellish’ existence than it really is.

Woodner used to be nice but it is hellhole now. Old, unmaintained and really ghetto like. The reason? Called rent control. The rents are too cheap for a lot of people and they make the place just total shit. We continue having murders in the city, all because of rent control. Bad tenants can’t be moved out because of rent control and so they stay around and terrorize the rest of us.

Creepy… I never worry about why the cops are outside when I get home, but I guess that’s why they were there last night? I had no idea she lived in my building, but it is truly a loss.

And, btw, not everywhere in the Woodner is a hellhole. It’s still nice, for the price, at least.

I have several friends who live in the Woodner who have stated that indeed there WAS a murder there 10 days ago.

This is terribly sad news. I have friends who have worked at Coppi’s for years and many friends who have visited over the years, and I was fortunate to meet Nori and her brother many times. My thoughts are with her and her family.

Yes but reporting that on a site which has become known as a news site for the area with no sourcing is irresponsible.

PoP should have sat on that piece of info until he could confirm it with MPD.

Otherwise this will get re-reported across the blogs with “According to PoP this is the second murder in 10 days.”
