I would NOT recommend Old City Green to anyone, despite a couple of comments singing its praises (probably the owner). It's overpriced (if you think Garden District is bad, Old City Green is quite a bit worse) and a bit of a dump.

Garden District guarantees the quality of their trees through the Holiday Season. They can't beat a HomeDepot price, but can beat them in service. They give each tree a fresh cut, re-bail them for you after you've opened one up to see if that's the tree you like, and help you get your tree safely to or on your car. gardendistrict-dc.com

I agree awith the Anonymous poster and recommend the Ross Elementary School's Christmas Tree sale. They are located on R Street NW between 17th and NH Ave NW:

There is an elementary school on 17th and S? Right around the corner from the 7-11 on 17th. Every year they sell trees as a fundraiser where a percent of the profit goes to the school. They also drop your tree off at your house if you live in the area. I have gotten a tree there the past 4 years, and they have been long lasting and fresh.

They start their sale the weekend after Thanksgiving and the proceeds go directly to their school programs such as paying for a music teacher, art, and PE activities.

BIG PLUS: They will deliver to Petworth for FREE!

I have been getting my trees from there for the past 6 years and have had the same PTSA dad deliver my tree each time.

Plus half of the sale is tax deductible!

I've been getting mine at the Oyster School in Woodley Park. What they charge for them is obscene, but they're nice trees and it supports the school.

Eastern Market, back when it was somewhat seedy, used to be a great place to get a tree. With all the gentrification and then the fire, I don't know if that is the case anymore.
