Fall Fiesta at Upshur Park Lots of Fun

This event was sponsored by the Friends of 16th Street Parks. Sorry I didn’t post in advance but I just stumbled past it. In the future I’ve asked them to email me similar events so I can add to ‘Weekend Picks’. Anyway, it was really great to see folks having such a great time on Sat. In my experience whenever there is a mariachi band, good times follow:

I was there and concur that it was a lovely event. Very kid friendly. I hope they do it again next year.

Petworth Newbie, I learned about it from both the Petworth and the Petworth Parents listservs. If you’re in the neighborhood, they can be a good way of keeping up with neighborhood events. (Children’s & family events, in particular, since PoP and the majority of his readership appear to not have kids and there’s a lot of stuff going on that doesn’t make it into his blog.)

also see http://www.friendsof16thstreetparks.com to sign on to their list server and check for upcoming events. this “friends of” group covers events and improvements at Upshur and Hamilton Parks. they are rapidly becoming a very effective local parks/community group….

aj – I know people who have been having trouble signing up for the Petworth yahoo list. Last I heard the maintainer had left the area, wasn’t keeping up with it, and so new people weren’t getting approved. Has that changed?

I am the Vice-President of the Friends of 16th Street Heights Parks and we would love to have new folks sign up on our list serve (currently we have about 200). We work to improve both Hamilton and Upshur Parks and always have lots going on and lots of volunteer opportunities! saf — I’m just a subscriber, not an administrator. I would hope people would be able to sign up, but I can’t say for sure since it’s been years since I joined.

I know Petworth Parents doesn’t (or didn’t) let people join unless the have kids, which I think is pretty bogus. (I think it should be open to anyone who is trying/interested in starting a family, too.)

Anyone can sign up on the Friends of the Parks List serve–the list serve is only for park related info, comments, ideas etc…
