House of the Day (Re-PoP)
12 November 2009 10:00 PM | By Prince Of Petworth in House of the Day

Every now and then I gotta throw a re-PoP up. Cause I was walking past this one on S Street just east of 18th and it could very well be the coolest rowhouse in DC. Right?

I was just told that you had our house on your blog. What an honor. Thanks so much for the feedback. The house was built in 1893 by a local architecht, Nicholas T. Haller as his residence. An interesting fact is that the 2nd and 3rd story “oriel” in front is not made of the Seneca Sandstone as the first floor. It is made of metal then painted with sandstone dust applied. Haller also built houses at 21st and O, NW, the Alexander Building on F St., the William Powell residence at 2nd and Mst., and houses at 19th and R St., NW.

I have lived here for 11 years and without a doubt this is one of the most amazing houses I have seen in DC! Please tell me it’s still a single family house and not 4 condos.

Thank you, Anonymous, for posting that InTowner article – it mentions history about my building that I didn’t know. Much appreciated
