The Embassy of Finland is located at 3301 Massachusetts Ave NW. I’m not sure about the exhibit but I really loved the building.

And a bit further south I saw this building at 3006 Mass. Ave which had a stone sign out front saying Embassy of Brazil. I’m not sure if they were just going under a renovation or new construction but it looks super cool.

Which building do you like better?

undergoing renovation…the staff moved its offices to M street about a year ago or so in the meanwhile…

  2. Sure I’m not the first (or last) to say this, but the Brazilian Embassy looks like an old flash bulb cube.

Generally I’d take Brazil over just about anything Finland has to offer, but I give the nod to the Fins here

You should check out the Italian Embassy down the street (Mass) by the park. I can’t really put a name to the style, but it has these weirdly inset windows that give it a shifty-eyed look.

The Finnish Embassy is amazing inside. It’s a beautiful open space with huge windows onto the woods behind the building, and a long deck/walkway that extends into the trees. There are some photos on the website http://www.finland.org/public/default.aspx?nodeid=35836&contentlan=2&culture=en-US

One thing we have to be proud of in this city is the great number of architectural hidden treasures.

The Brazilian embassy definitely does not look Finnished.

The Brazilian building was built back in 1971 by Brazilian architect Olavo Redig de Campos and is just going through renovations and a roof replacement
