I’m not hatin’, but upscale cupcakies have outlived their 15 minutes.

Besides, the best ones I ever had were at Sweet Mandy B’s in Chicago. I would be delighted if that one expanded.

Why is a $4 cupcake a problem– when people pay $4 for coffee concoctions at Starbucks? Also $4 doesn’t sound so bad when you compare it to dessert items at places like TGIF, Applebees or similar places that cost you $6-$7 and most of the time it’s not good. So there is 10% unemployment nationally 15% in DC and someone is putting up their money (or somehow got a loan) to open a place in DC selling $4 cupcakes!?!?!

Coming from Manhattan, these guys probably think they’re introducing something in the DC market that nobody down here has ever had before.

And it’s the folks supplying the food around here who are unsophisticated, not the consumers.

I remember TJH how sketchy Petworth and CH were ten years ago. My parents are still in shock when they drive in the area and see all of the development.

I agree with Anon 11:44am. You don’t have to buy cupcakes if you don’t want! I am glad that places like these are opening and thriving in DC.

How soon do we forget what this city was like about 8 years ago — no places to shop, eat, entertain without driving out to Montgomery County or VA.

I’d rather see these “boutique” bakeries opening than check cashing or fried food joints opening in this city. I’m even happier that businesses are succeeding in the DC.
