The light poles look nice but the lights look like the same urban-light-polluting lamps that are all over the city. Perhaps save the money now until there’s some greener tech like LEDs or motion sensors with a dimmer control. Or both.

It is not a small thing. The lights looks great. Note: your car will be destroyed driving down 11th street the condition of the street is ‘TURRIBLE’ insert Charles Barkley’s voice from RI Ave to Mass Ave (Will PoP reader get Sir Charles reference..I wonder?)

On 12th street in Brookland they hung the ‘arm’ portion of the light on the existing wooden poles, looks not so good. Harry Thomas work on this.

These are a “small thing” except budgetarily, as they are very expensive and slated only for a few areas, suspiciously all are downtown and wealthy. In my area of Ward 4, we have a rats nest of power/phone/cable lines running all over the place, and lots of our power poles are sagging. I’d really enjoy some basic maintenance in my area, rather than posh lighting for other areas. Thanks Fenty!

let’s hope these new lamp posts can accomodate LED lights, which are inevitiably coming to DC like they are in other major jurisdictions. LEDs will vastly cut energy use and reduce climate pollution. they make great sense!
