You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Monday and Friday. So anything good happen to you this weekend?

  • Marcus Aurelius

Rant: Apparently, the Christmas shopping season now starts the day after Halloween. Geesh!

  • Emmaleigh504

I’m already tired of hearing about the holidays.

  • Negrodamus

PoP as a whole, is really racist towards people of color, especially ones they feel threatened by. Lilly white honkeys.

  • WDC

Negrodamus, do you think any of us “honkeys” could get away with tossing a racial slur like you just did? It’s a non-issue, because my friends and I don’t think like that.

However, I am threatened by agressive people who have no respect for others. While lots of them are black people, the real unifying factor is the lack of respect. Are you part of the problem? Is that the root of your complaint?

  • Prince Of Petworth

@negrodamus – it is very clear that you think I’m racist. That is fine. Calling people “lilly white honkeys”. Is the reason why I delete your comments. If you’d ever like to meet in person to discuss please let me know. And I’m serious, I don’t mean that in a snarky way. I’m happy to discuss your problems with the site. Please email me directly.

  • Herb

Rant: A lot of cranky people on all my favorite blogs today–is it Halloween candy withdrawal?

Rave: MMM..can’t think of too much. I must be one of the cranky people today.

  • MK

    Rave: Halloween in Mt. Pleasant.

Rant: None. Still buzed from wine and candy.

  • Mal

    Rant: negrodamus

    Rant: sick

Rave: halloween costumes were a hit

  • CHisOK

UGH! Will the construction on 14th street EVER be done?

  • H

Rave: our group Halloween costume was kick ass.

Rant: nobody recognized it but us, and a stupid as Lady Gaga costume won the Cobalt costume contest ($700 prize!!)

  • Mal

@H – what was your costume!? (I thought the lady gaga costumes were lame)

  • Kalorini

Rave: today is my favorite holiday all year–Sale Halloween Candy Day. CVS, here I come!

Rant: People who lean against handrails & poles on the Metro during rush hours. I understand the Express paper is high-class news and you need to read it, but I don’t want to fall face-down on the ground, but more importantly, I don’t want to touch your love handles to stay upright! YEESH!

Last Rant: I despise my neighbors. Loud at all hours. It sounds like there are 15 people in a 2 bedroom apartment at one time, and they come and go constantly. Drugs? Who knows. I can’t wait for a good night’s sleep once they’re evicted!! Isn’t there a cap on the max number of people allowed in DC apartments?

  • WDC

Good costumes spotted: Mario from Mario Bros. Magritte’s Son of Man. Cash Cow.

Costumes we don’t need to see again next year because they’re really tired and un-creative: Holly Golightly. Any variation on lingerie + kitty/mouse/bunny ears. Your dad’s kilt.

  • WDC

Kalorini, you may have an illegal rooming situation next door. Yes, there is a limit; if you bring it to the attention of your council member, they will send out inspectors and make the landlord do the right thing. It might take 2-3 months, but oohhhhh… blissful silence. I can’t believe I put up with 14 people crashing in a three-bedroom house nextdoor to me for as long as I did before I snapped.

  • Kalorini

@WDC – Oooo, good idea. The building’s security staff has been nice, asking them to pipe down during late hours, even calling the police once, but I am suspicious of the number of people squatting over there–the real root of the problem. Hope Jim Graham can help :-)

  • grumpy

Kalorini, when I encounter people leaning onto a metro pole and it’s the only place for me to grab on, I’ll typically just say “excuse me” as I go to grab the pole and that’s enough. If not, then I repeatedly “accidentally” ram them with my shoulder bag until they move. good luck!

  • Kalorini

@grumpy – that’s been my strategy, too! I wish people knew it was rude to start with, though. :-P

  • vonstallin

Nobody loved me enuff to envite me to a holloween party this weekend. had my cape ready…just listening for the phone call while I watched folks post mobile uploads to face book…sigh…it hurt :(

It made me realized that while I have a ton of friends/associates…. I am nobodys really best friend or the one they call first for events. I shouldnt be mad since im a lone wolf by nature, but I really wanted to be out with people i knew vs. just going to random places.

Will they miss me when Im gone?

  • Dead Presidents

Rant: People like Negrodamus. That’s so last century.

    Rant: the weather

Rant: my loud neighbors. Kalorini, I feel your pain. I am 80% sure my neighbors are running an unlicensed daycare out of their apartment, and while I haven’t done anything about it yet basically because I feel somewhat sorry for them, I am starting to consider something.

Rave: Even with all that, life ain’t so bad.

  • Rachel

Vonstallin, you’re not alone in being a somewhat lonely lone wolf.

  • Kalorini

Update: I emailed Jim Graham about the illegal housing issue. My next rave will hopefully be: They’re gone!

@Dead Presidents–it sounds like we have the same neighbors! They have kids that scream until about 10 pm, but I’m not sure the kids live in the apartment..

  • LJ

Rant: My boss is an imbecile.

Rave: I got second place in my building’s pumpkin carving contest.

  • Kathryn

    Rant: insanely overworked today

Rave: leftover chocolate candy keeps forever in the freezer!

  • skeedattle

@Vonstallin: you are definitely not alone! Loners are the strongest…we will do well in the apocalypse. Just remember the line from Pee Wee: “I’m a loner, Dottie…a rebel.” Yeah, rock on.

  • The Centzon Totochtin

PoP, you have good intentions, but someone flaming your posts with this kind of inflammatory crap is generally not going to want to talk things over with you like a normal person.

And you never know where these posts come from- it could be a 50 year old white guy masquerading or a 15 year old kid in high school just trying to stir things up, as easily as it could be a person with legitimate concerns that you can address. These kinds of posts are just the same as other negative posts about race you let stand though, I would not delete them, and just let everyone else refute the poster.

  • anonymous

It’s totally OK to say white people are all racists, especially the ones that live in DC, but when I say black people can’t shut the hell up in a movie theater, it’s a hate crime.

  • Wishing it weren't

Rant: That blacks still have issues with whites and vice versa. Didn’t we get past that last November? Oh right, we have to live amongst each other and sometimes our cultures just don’t mix well.

Rave: A most beautiful mixed race couple (they were both humans though!) at Yes Organic Food seen on Halloween night. Ah, maybe there is hope in this city for multiracial bliss. If we could just get the children to stop shooting at each and throw eggs at each other instead (factory farm white and organic brown at that).

    Come on people!

  • H

@Mal, we were the Lion, the Witch, the Wardrobe, and Mr. Tumnus, we rocked Narnia hard. :)

  • vonstallin

    Rach & Skee
I will be stocking up and training like the wolf for 2012, lol

  • New2CH

Neither rant nor rave, but folks, be sure to drop by Harriet Tubman School at 7 Wednesday for the Columbia Heights community forum with Mayor Fenty …

  • hipchickindc

Rave: Glad to see Sean’s artwork at the top of this post and our new ad at the top of the blog.

Rant: If I’d have known how hard it was to get back into shape, maybe I would’ve thought twice about letting myself get so far out of it. Well, maybe, but probably not. Anyway, it hurts.

  • Anonymous

Negrodamus is probably just a d*#k.

Prince Of Petworth what he might say in a constructive voice is there are certain things ‘Petworth’ / ‘DC’ that go untouched by your blog. For example there is a sizeable churchgoing population in Petworth.

I enjoy what you do but I do not get the impression that your readership is very diverse.
