This sign terrified me when I first saw it. I’m a huge fan of Good Wood located at 1428 U Street, NW. I went in the store on Saturday and the owner said that he wasn’t too worried. I asked if he was looking for a new space for Good Wood but he said it was way too early for that. Apparently, it is not uncommon for a building like this to go on sale but not find a buyer. Should the building actually sell, it is likely Good Wood will remain somewhere in the neighborhood. Hopefully they won’t have to move…

How much? PoP can’t post a real estate listing without posting a building cost too! It’s like serving the a peanut butter sandwich without the jelly.
please keep us posted if you get any more info on this…
Good Wood is one of my favorite stores in the District. I hope they thrive whether they remain in place or have to find new space. I’ll follow them wherever they go.
If you ever purchase a piece of furniture that has to exit through the back of the building, you’ll pass through an active artist’s studio. I was told that it’s the studio of Sam Gilliam, who happens to own the building. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_gilliam) I’ve seen his work in a few different museums around town and my office also has a large Gilliam work hanging in one of its lobbies. Pretty cool — made me like Good Wood and U Street and Sam Gilliam and living in the District that much more.
But if Good Wood has a lease, then he doesn’t have to worry about going anywhere.
The new owners will have to honor the lease terms and honestly, the tenants are mostly likely being used as a selling point…
If PoP likes Good Wood he should check out Brass Knob’s warehouse store on the unit block of N Street NW. Lots of cool stuff there. Don’t miss the open air stuff out back.
@crin I did and it was awesome!

Ha! Sean, I’ll split the cost of something with you and R just so we can walk through Sam Giliam’s studio!
