This coop is located at 429 Kenyon Street, NW:

The flier says:

“Lower-level, two bedroom unit offers one full bathroom and lots of closet space. In good condition but needs a little TLC. Great opportunity, great price. Enjoy co-op ownership (co-op fee includes all utilities, taxes, operating expenses and underlying mortgage) and lower closing costs! Seller will replace all appliances and install carpet prior to closing.”

You can find more info here.

Sadly there are no interior photos but I thought the price was too incredible for a 2 bedroom not to discuss. Given that the rooms may need some updating do you think $150,000 sounds reasonable for this 2bed/1 bath?

Water main break on 1500 block of Spring Place NW

Thanks to a reader for sending:

“We have a water main break at the 1500 block of Spring Place NW. Residents notified WASA’s emergency line at 8 PM on December 30 and have been without water since 9 PM on December 30. WASA began digging up the street at 8 AM, December 31.

It is a sewer and main line break, “very bad” in WASA’s words.”

From WASA:

“So right now, we have both a water main and sewer break. Spring Place between 16th and Perry is shut down in order to facilitate repairs. Our Water Services Foreman said that crews are working hard to restore water today.”

LOOK – F Street

December 31st, 2009 | By Prince Of Petworth in Photo Archives | 6 Comments »

Alex Barth shot this with a Holga on Tri-X film,  during the snowstorm on December 19th.  This is a quiet moment on F street, a world away from the now legendary snowball fight at 14th and U.  Check out Alex’s whole set.

Once again most have Friday off so here’s another early question of the day. Given it’s that time of year, it’s time to ask that kind of question – what is your strongest memory for 2009 in DC? I’m gonna have to go with President Obama’s inauguration week. There was such a buzz in the air it was absolutely electric. What about you guys – anything about 2009 stick out to you? Also any predictions for the city in 2010?

One of My Favorite Buildings Gets a Facelift

December 30th, 2009 | By Prince Of Petworth in Buildings, Neighborhoods - Columbia Heights | 5 Comments »

IMG_1582

I’ve mentioned these buildings on 15th Street, NW just north of Meridian Hill/Malcolm X park before. A few months ago there was some scaffolding up and I’ve eagerly been awaiting to see the results. I think it looks great. This whole property is incredible. Due to the trees it’s hard to get a picture of the entire property so these photos don’t totally do it justice…

Assistant Secretary Tangherlini on Focusing on Outcomes (By Danny Harris)

December 30th, 2009 | By Prince Of Petworth in People's District | 5 Comments »

Dan Tangherlini

Danny Harris is a DC-based photographer, DJ, and collector of stories. In September, he launched People’s District, a blog that tells a people’s history of DC by sharing the stories and images of its residents. Every day, People’s District presents a different Washingtonian sharing his or her insights on everything from Go Go music to homelessness to fashion to politics. You can read his previous columns here.

“I grew up in Auburn, Massachusetts. In 1991, I came to D.C. after graduate school as a Presidential Management Intern with the Office of Management and Budget. I thought that I would work here for a few years and then go back to Massachusetts. The longer I stayed, though, the more deeply routed I became. I met my wife here. We bought and renovated a house on Capitol Hill. We started a family here. Any notion of leaving got increasingly distant with time.

“Somewhere along the way, I got interested in this city itself and how to make it better. When Anthony Williams was appointed Chief Financial Officer for Washington, I was offered an opportunity to be a detailee in his office from my position in the U.S. Department of Transportation. When Mr. Williams became mayor, he asked if I would serve as CFO of the Police Department. Chief Ramsey had just come in from Chicago. There seemed to be so many exciting things going on at that time. With the Police Department, we were working on issues no less important than the safety of the citizens living in the nation’s capital. Still, I had no intention of staying with the city for longer than a few years. But, from the Police Department, I went to the D.C. Department of Transportation (DDOT), then Metro, and then became the City Administrator and Deputy Mayor. Now, I am back in the federal government as Treasury’s Assistant Secretary for Management, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Performance Officer.

“One of the great stories from my time in the city is of the Circulator bus. Someone once described me as the father of the Circulator. I think that is an unfair description. There were so many people who had been working on this idea for a long time. There was the Museum Bus that cropped up in the 80’s then died, and the Blue Bus started by Ginger Latham, and the Georgetown Bid. The Blue Bus connected Georgetown and Dupont Circle. I mean, can you imagine two cooler destinations to go to and from? What was fascinating was that the bus served primarily workers in Georgetown. For them, the bus was a huge bonus because parking in Georgetown can be a nightmare and the transit connections can be unreliable. I used to joke that the bus schedule is a list of times that the bus will not come. This shuttle made it easy for people to get to work. The Blue Bus made it clear that there was a market for similar bus routes.

Continues after the jump. Read Full Post

Pizza Hut Robbed on 1700 Block of Columbia Road, NW

December 30th, 2009 | By Prince Of Petworth in Crime - Stories, Neighborhoods - Adams Morgan | 7 Comments »

Thanks to a reader for sending from MPD:

“On December 29, 2009, at approximately 11:05 PM, a lone black male robbed the Pizza Hut and its employees. It appears that the suspect hid inside of the Pizza Hut before closing, and then made himself known once the establishment closed. The suspect approached the manager and demanded that he retrieve the money from the safe. The manager advised the suspect that the safe was closed and he did not have access, the suspect then took money from the register and the employees and fled through the rear door. The suspect is described as a Black male, wearing a white shirt. This incident is being investigated by the Third District Detectives office. Anyone with information is urged to contact MPD at 202-727-9099.”
