Shanghai Garden is located at 4469 Connecticut Ave, NW. I love the look of these old school Chinese restaurants. It kind of reminds me (on a smaller scale) of the classic spot in Cleveland Park that is now becoming a Walgreens:
Folks on Yelp seem to like it. Any fans out there? Worth the trip to Van Ness or only if you’re already in the area?

Best fish tacos in town. Yuca and horchada aren't too bad either.
I love it. The people are warm and friendly, and the food is yummy! A great neighborhood spot.
free soup bar at lunch is worth the trip. on a scale of 1-10 for am-chinese food. I’d say 7.5
When I lived in the Van Ness area, this place was a saving grace. Eat in or Take out the food was always delicious. If my memory serves me right, they are closed Sundays which was a huge bummer for the football days or after a long weekend where I didn’t feel like cooking. Much better than Charlie Chiangs which is literally across the street.
my wife and i love this place!
I absolutely love this place. For the longest time this was the only place in the area to get a good meal. It’s like eating with your family. The owners are wonderful and always remember you. I don’t live anywhere near them now but I drive all the way across town to eat there or pick up some carryout on the way home from work. I think I’ve had just about everything on the menu.
By far some of the best Chinese food in the city. Try the Kung Pao Chicken or the Imperial Wonton Soup.
