I don’t know about you guys but the thought of walking a labyrinth would not quiet my mind, it’d drive me crazy looking for a way out. Or am I taking this too literally…?

It’s just a pattern on the floor you follow from beginning to end. A meditative thing–not a maze.
Neopagan & Druid traditions use this motif as a meditative device as well.
Kind of like the check out line at the Petworth Safeway.
The Washington Cathedral has a labyrinth walk the last Tuesday of the month, often with harp or Native American flute music. Very peaceful and relaxing!

Unlike a maze, a labyrinth is often designed without dead ends. It’s made specifically for peripatetic and meditative pacing within a relatively small area. So, yes, it can be a peaceful experience.
It would be more peaceful without those freaky Fireys. Please, David Bowie, I just want my baby brother back.
haha wandering and anon 12:42. And i’ve always wondered about this place when i walk by. thanks for featuring.
I’ve gone through a couple of those corn mazes, and you’re right, it can be a maddening experience. Some of them are seriously hard to navigate, and I could see where it wouldn’t be a good place for someone prone to panic in that sort of situation.
It is a very peaceful experience. My parents used to have one on their farm- we’d walk it every night to relax.
I think this is pretty cool, as long as there are not hordes of people walking at one time. That would just take all of the relaxation out of it…
There is another cool labyrinth in the newish Georgetown waterfront park. It is outside(obviously) around 33rd and K.
As long as there’s no minotaur there, it should be all right.
PoP, did you go inside? It’s a GORGEOUS little church. And on Tuesdays they have very nice lunchtime concerts.
You should mention that this labyrinth is at the Church of the Epiphany, on G St NW between 13th and 14th Streets. The church does a lot of outreach in the downtown area, including to downtown workers and the homeless. There is also a great free concert series every Tuesday at noon.
