Granted I don’t frequently visit the Taco Bell in Van Ness but I always liked knowing it was there…
I also really liked the mechanic next door but I guess since I sold my car this development doesn’t really hit me too hard…
I will miss that Taco Bell though, I had some good times/memories there.

I’ve been monitoring the progress of this new building on the 2600 block of 15th Street, NW (north of Fuller) for a number of months. Looks like it’ll be condos/apartments. And it finally looks ready to judge… Do you like the color of the brick? The building overall?

I just recently noticed this pop up on Fuller Street off 15th near the Girard Park. I guess I never noticed the pop up before because it’s a bit set back. All things considered, would you give this pop up a thumbs up or down?

Per a readers request following is the sad news from The Washington Post:
“Police said the woman, whose identity was not released pending notification of family, was struck shortly after 1 a.m. at the intersection of 16th Street and Park Road.”

I know there are lots of fans of D’Vines on 14th Street in Columbia Heights. My Capitol Hill friends swear by Schneider’s of Capitol Hill. And I remember back in the day when I lived in Cleveland Park that Calvert Woodley Liquor on Connecticut Ave. in Van Ness was highly recommended. So if you know nothing about wine where can you find the best selection/prices in town?
“Dear PoP,
Just wanted to take a second to give two thumbs up for the new nail place at 14th and Park. The store is clean and pleasantly decorated, the staff know what they’re doing and are customer service oriented, and the prices are in line with DC standards ($32 for a mani/pedi). I’m sitting in the fabulous massage chair right now and couldn’t be happier! A great addition for Columbia Heights.”

Since we didn’t have any house porn last week I thought I’d start the week this good looking house located at 1925 15th Street, NW:
The flier says:
“Wonderfully renovated beauty – offers modern living & flexibility – as a grand 5 bed/3.5 ba home on 3 luxury levels or as a 3 bed/2.5 ba home on 2 levels + sep metered 2 bed/1 bath legal CofO rental in LL (could get $2000+ mo). Meticulously redone, dramatic dual stairways, entertain size open spaces, custom doors & details, 5 FPs, open spaces, 2 car secure parking!”
You can find more info here and a mouse on house virtual tour here.
What do you think of the renovation itself? Think it can go for the asking price of $1,175,000 (dropped from $1,249,000)?

You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Monday and Friday. So anything good happen to you this weekend?
Any good Christmas/holiday stories?

Sorry I missed these great ones from last week. Above is from Crooked Beat Records on 18th Street in Adams Morgan and below is from Som Records on 14th Street (just south of T).

I wasn’t terribly excited about the Cricket grand opening in this location but the Sala Thai liquor license application got me pretty psyched. The Sala Thai spot is located a few storefronts south of Cricket on Georgia Ave.
It actually will take up two spaces:
The occupancy load will be 80 and I was pretty excited to see that they are requesting a summer garden area to seat 16:

I don’t know if this is meant to be humorous or serious advice. Sad times indeed…though it did initially make me chuckle.

I just noticed these signs after they expired. I wonder if there are any statistics to show the effectiveness of these temporary drug free zones? I know lots of folks out there have followed this more closely than I have – anyone know if the statistics exist? I wonder if it was related to the recent shooting at Sweet Mango? By the by, Sweet Mango is open but there liquor license is still suspended pending a hearing.

I’ve always been a huge fan of the sculptures in Mt. Pleasant but I found a few really cool ones in the Forest Hills neighborhood as well. More coming later this week.

Due to all the snow melt and rain, Rock Creek was huge this weekend. I accidentally got last in the park for about an hour and despite my frustration kept marveling at how fast the creek was running. Most of the pictures were taken when I found my way…
There was even a little waterfall:
