The signage is still very confusing at the corner of 14th and Church Streets, NW. There is still an application for Cork and Fork on the corner. But there is also a sign for Homemade Pizza that is hiring soon:
When I originally posted a few weeks ago a commenter said that Homemade pizza will actually be a few storefronts down on Church Street. Anyway, I thought the peek into the construction progress was pretty cool:
So either Cork and Fork or Homemade Pizza is starting to look good…

It’d be great if someone could help this reader out.
“Dear PoP,
My name is Joe, and I’m an International Relations major at the college of William and Mary. I’m searching for a microeconomics tutor throughout winter break (Dec 21- Jan18). I’m currently enrolled in an intermediate Micro-economics class that has been quite overwhelming: conceptually and technically (never taken a calculus course). My professor has agreed to give me an incomplete, and have me retake the class next semester after having brushed up on the necessary background material: applicable calculus concepts and principals of microeconomics. In addition to the text book, I have class notes, and two old exams that will serve as a guide. I will be spending the majority of my winter break preparing, in DC, and am looking for a tutor to help me along the way. I’ve searched for tutors at the local universities to no avail. If interested, I will email the syllabus and relevant class material. I’ll look forward to hear from you to discuss frequency and compensation. My email: jxbeny@wm.edu“

I know the above photo is not, uh, the most delicate but those dogs were flying around so it was tough to snap a photo. Anyway, I’ve been curious about dogs wearing coats. This may be a stupid question but does it just depend on the breed? Obviously this dog seemed to be in heaven:
So how do you decide if your dog needs a coat?

This home is located at 129 U Street, NE:
The flier says:
“Wonderful 3 BR 1 FB classic townhome in Eckington. Beaut. dark wood trim with inlayed HWD floors. All new paint. Full BSMT waiting for buyers personal touches. Lvl fenced back yard with access to alley. Has many orig. classic features found in the early 1900 townhomes.”
You can find more info and photos here.
The reader writes:
“I’ve been looking to buy my first home and have noticed a lot of recent home sales in Bloomingdale and Eckington. My realtor tells me that this is due to an influx of new home buyers taking advantage of the tax credit and the fact that these neighborhoods have a bunch of historic homes at relatively low prices. I know that there are some disadvantages to living in this neighborhood but would appreciate feedback from your readers as to the deal of this particular home.”
This 3 bed/1 bath is going for $229,900. Sound reasonable?

Sushi Go Round & Tapas is located at 705 7th Street NW. This is the spot located next to the Verizon Center. I’m always curious about this spot when I go see a movie at the Regal Cinema inside the mall. You can see their menus here. Any fans?
Incidentally I had a crepe at the nearby Crepes on the walk. I had a cheese, avocado and tomato one for $6 and it was awesome!

There is a long tradition of photographing on the subway. Everyone from Walker Evans to Bruce Davidson has done it. Aziz Yazdani’s shot reminds me of a Bruce Davidson photograph from his 1980 Subway book. Aziz’s photo was shot with a Leica M7 using Fuji 400 film.

When I posted last week that Pho Viet was opening up at 3513 14th Street, NW I thought there would be a bit more excitement given the frenzy that occurred when nearby Pho 14 opened on Park Road. I tried to go today and sadly forgot that they were closed on Mondays. So a couple questions – has anyone given them a try yet? How does it compare to Pho 14?
And props to Pho Viet for getting a proper sign:

“Dear PoP,
I took my dog to the 17th & S dog park this morning and found a ring shining in the snow. I figure its owner lost it and probably wants it back – looks like a wedding ring. Anyway, I posted on craiglist and thought you might provide a link to that post:

“Dear PoP,
Just came home to the intersection Sherman Avenue and Euclid Street, around 6:45 pm (Monday night). At the intersection are five police cars with lights blazing, plus one unmarked with police plates, and a civilian car burning its four-ways. We saw the cops putting a man in fatigues into the back of one of the cars, and now there are half a dozen officers out conversing on the corner. Any info as to what’s going on in my front yard?”
MPD 3D Commander Jacob Kishter writes:
“Third District members on patrol intervened on an attempt carjacking at Sherman Ave and Euclid St, NW. One adult male was arrested without incident.”
Excellent work!

I was pretty disappointed with a few CVS stores I saw around town that hadn’t shoveled their walks. (Above from 14th and W Streets, NW) Herb writes:
“It’s particularly bad when even the Post Office at 14th and T hasn’t shoveled its sidewalk.
Cricket at 14th and U is another offender. Pictures taken around 11:30 pm today (Monday).”
For those that walked around town today – were the sidewalks passable?
