Max Cook’s photo of the Washington Monument at night, shot with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III, reminded me of the book, Washington By Night, by Volkmar Wentzel, of photos taken in the 1930′s.

Winnie and Teddy are so adorable. How old are they?
Happy Birthday Charles Dickens! Not a lot has changed.
Orange kitties are psycho- I have one and he's nuts. Adorable, but nuts.
Yeah, that right there would have me walking out the door. Nothing says "You'll...
Columbia Heights and Georgia Ave opened on the same day.
this reminds me of when i was at the Vietnam Memorial a few years ago one night. The fog was so thick, all you could see was the bottom 50 feet or so of the Washington Monument and the immediate land around it. Nothing else. Not even the lights in the area.
It really felt like I had stepped back in time. Back when the monument wasn’t even finished yet. It was really eerie.

rb – you look a lot like Jeff Bridges. hmmmm.
Beautiful shot. Well done, Max!

Wentzel is a hero. He’s a latter day Brassai.
Max’s shot is ethereal and a stunning image. Great selection.
