And in non snowsanity related news – a burger joint is coming to the Old Garden District space located at 14th and S Streets, NW. This is the space that was gonna have a creperie for a hot second. Thanks to all the readers who sent in the word. One reader writes:

“The old garden district at 14th and S will be re-imagined as a beer garden (I’ve always said DC is sorely missing this!) Apparently it will be started by a twenty-something Bates College grad.”

The liquor application says:

“New restaurant serving hamburgers and french fries with 15 seats. Occupancy load of 170. Request a sidewalk cafe with a seating capacity of 67 and summer garden with a seating capacity of 63″.

Sounds pretty sweet, yeah?

    Would’ve preferred falafel joint.

not sure how they’ll fare in the winter w/ such limited indoor seating, but they’ll be packed in the spring/summer i’m sure.

  3. A burger joint is perfect. It’s something this city has been lacking for a long time.

    • can’t you get a burger at just about every bar?
(honest question, really) i never get burgers, so i dont know, but it seems like they all do.

ah, but this flips that equation on it’s head, you see.

most places in dc are a bar where you can get a burger. This is a burger place where you can get a beer.

        it’s 360 degrees different.

i thought dakota cowgirl had a pretty damn good burger, and it was on 14th between N and RI i think. i was sad to see it go. it’ll be good to have another in the area.

I hope the college kids can step up to such a foodie neighborhood and deliver. I’m open to the idea!

How about getting a little head of the DC food trends and opening up an arepas joint?

There are falafel places around. Try Amsterdam on 18th st. It’s awesome.

Definitely fills a need. Hope it is at the quality level of a place like Shake Shack in NYC, or Ray’s here in DC. If the burgers are great, it will always be packed, simple as that. If not, then not.
