Oh wow… Absolute love it. The first few rooms are a little to… floofy for me, but I like the kitchen, master bath, and bedrooms.
Jealous!
This is by far one of the nicest houses ever featured on this site.
Now THAT is house porn. That chapel-like sunroom is great.
What does it mean when a house is “important”? I can understand that a house may be “important” because of its occupants (e.g., White House, ambassador’s residence) or because of its design (certain architectural landmarks (obviously subject to debate). This house appears to be neither (even if it is really nice and nicely built).
Notice the Swedish flag pillows and the antler chandeliers (sp?) in one of the pictures? Maybe it is a former ambassador’s residence.
or the TWO nordic tracks. It has to be a former ambassador’s residence. The Icelandics were selling their ambassador’s house a while ago in this same neighborhood – after the financial crisis/bankruptcy and all.
I really wanted to hate this house and work out all my frustrations by snarking on the builder grade kitchen cabinets or Home Depot bathrom floor tile but it is lovely, truly lovely. I could happily live in that Conservatory alone!
I think the House Porn Trophy should be retired with this one!
if you have to ask…you’re not important.
favorite part has to be the staircase down to the pool dressing room.
I feel like we’ve seen this before…
I like the gazebo in the backyard housing a spiral staircase to the underground pool dressing room. That’s just awesome. Nice koi, too.
Any house that has a “Children’s Library” is a winner. Amazing.
Based on my experience, I think it’s overpriced by about $2,723. I saw a very small spot on one of the walls.
drool.
wow. the master suite is pretty amazing.
also, the current owners must have an enormously valuable art collection, if they found it necessary to blur out all the images!
Or maybe it’s a family portrait?
This will become the new home of my daydream life. I ditto the comment that I could happily live in the conservatory.
Col Mustard in the conservatory with original artwork.
I don’t love the decorating style in the formal rooms, and find it kind of hilarious to have a seating area for 6+ in the master bedroom, but my god that is one gorgeous house! Second the love for the children’s library – that would’ve made my dreams come true as an 8-year-old (not to mention now).
Is this the late Ted Kennedy’s house?
I wonder if this is the house that Maury Povich and Connie Chung were going to buy until just recently, when it went back on the market. I know it was a place that is ridiculously priced, huge and in that neighborhood.
It is indeed that house. Here is a Post piece about them buying it and all specs match up (# of bedrooms, square footage, etc.)
Heh…would help if I included the link:

I would only buy it if the masseuse table in the pool dressing room conveys. Otherwise it’s not a good deal.
What’s not a good deal is your infatuation with Twilight.
It’s overpriced by at least $3Mil – did you see the size of the hobby room? It’s a glorified closet! Where is the gift wrapping room?
And all that space wasted on the servants quarters.
IT is over priced by the national debt
Probably the best HP ever right here. This is the kind of thing that keeps me playing Powerball. Every dollar I waste on that is so that I can buy an ounce of hope that someday I’ll live in this place.
Also, I’ll speculate that this place has some righteous security and lots of hidden rooms/secure places that don’t show on the schematic.
Current Owners:
Bonnie and Stephen Simon have been leading musical figures in the Washington, D.C. area for nearly 30 years. As Executive Director and Founding Music Director of the Washington Chamber Symphony, the resident chamber orchestra at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, they brought innovative programming for audiences of all ages. Deeply committed to sharing the joys of orchestral music, they augmented the perpetually sold out evening concert series with educational concert programs for parents and children, and delightful entertainments in the concert hall that included Holiday Sing-Along Spectacular, Great Composer Series, and the highly publicized national conception, Viva Vivaldi!, that recreated Vivaldi’s All-Girl Orchestra.

You had me at massage room.
With all the build up to the pool, an actual picture of the pool would be nice
I would love to see loft pictures.
Sending link to hubby. This is what I want for my birthday. Wish me luck!
